possible to use this tire size instead?
What's up CL, I have an 01 GS430 with 17" lexus riims and 235/45 /17 tires on it. Is it possible to switch to 225/50/17 since that's what's stock on the 06. Would it mess up the alignment or only the speedometer? I'm looking for a more comfortable ride as I was used to 215/60/16 on my 99 GS3 I had. I like the better handling the tires provide but catch myself missing the cushy ride those 60 series tires had on my 99. Is it possible to change to tires that are at least a 50 or will it mess up the alignment?

And it didn't change your alignment? Because I know when they align the car it asks which tire and wheel size is on the car and I don't believe 225/50/17 is an option. I'm just making sure because on most cars I've had even changing the tire size a little from stock causes the car to pull on crowned roads. When I switched back to stock the car would literally drive itself. That's how straight it tracked

that small of a difference should not have too much or any effect on alignment.
I am no tire/car/engine/anything expert. But this the internet so i play an expert. jk

Lol thanks. What about 225/55/17?I want something less wide and thicker to absorb bumps. Has anyone tried these combos and noticed a difference in the ride?

now youre going way to tall...
5.6% over.
if you want that cushy ride again check your shocks/springs and suspension to see what needs replacing.
Just remember.. the aspect ratio is the % of the tire width. IE 55% of 225
me personally i wouldnt want the cushy ride. I feel rather unsafe whenever im doing late second avoidance.

The cool *** (Asian, lol) girl I bought my GS430 from was running 245/45/ZR17 Kumho's on my stock 17's, and personally...I like that size better. They are 25.7" instead of 25.3" overall diameter and the sidewalls are just about FLUSH with the face of the wheels.
Funny thing is... that is EXACT same overall diameter as my the 245/30/ZR20's that I run in the summer months. ha

Cmon bro...
your OE size is P215/60R16 according to the Toyo Tire size locator...
You want 225/50R17
Overall diameter of the P215 OE is 26.2 Inches
Overall diameter of the 225 is 25.9 Inches
This case it is NOT TOO TALL.
Just get the 225/50R17 and call it a day. If you want more boat then swap out to the ugly 16" wheels.
and that 215/60R17 is NOT recommended. you will be 3.8% slower than your oe tire.
Like i said before... .225/50R17 WILL work on your car.

I have a 01 GS430 and your saying the OE tire for that is 215/60/16? I think you mean that was the OE tire on the 99 I had because the 01 came with 17" wheels I believe

I dont think you reading what he said, i think he thinks I have the 99 still because he said my OE tire size is 215/60/16 but thats the OE size on the 99 unless thats the OE size on the 01 430 too because mine came with 17" lexus wheels with 235/45/17 on them

when picking tires. you base everything off your OE size FIRST. You try your best to match your OE Overall Diameter within the 3% plus or minus area. reason being is because your speedo vs actual speed will get affected.
Just trust me on this one lol.
i run 225/50R17 on my GS400 and its super close to my actual speed according to the speed radar thing.

and it doesnt affect your alignment at all especially over bumpy roads? because when the machine does the alignment it asks which tire/wheel setup you have and 225/50/17 isnt an option only for the 06 its an option.
