I don't believe it's the tires. This thing was shaking so hard I slowed down to 40mph on the highway because it felt similar to a flat tire.
I can feel play in the front end when I am driving so I truly think there is something loose up there.
Where are the rack bushings located? I will check the ball joints as soon as I get a chance to jack it up.

I bought an 03 sentra for my girlfriend. at 70mph the steering wheel shook ALOT!! guess what...it was the tire. It had a bubble on the inside part of the wheel where you couldn't see it. I got 2 new tires for the front...then it drove perfectly smooth. so yeah it could be tires.

I'm gonna weigh in with tie rod ends. But, seriously check everything as soon as you can. I have never owned a car with as sensitive a steering system as this. Maybe it needs more lash to dampen things down. Or, maybe Tien or Tanabe needs to build a steering stabilizer shock absorber, like some 4X4s use.

I'm not really sure how to tell if tie rods or tie rod ends are bad unless they are broken? The tie rods went on the family Nissan Quest and I could tell they something felt messed up every time we hit a small bump. This issue doesn't feel anything like that. I should take a video with my phone the next time it happens and post it (assuming I need to drive on the highway again before I get a chance to fix it). I'd like to fix it before then though.
I'll check ball joints and bushings this weekend. I actually just went ahead and bought a set of bushings from TM Engineering figuring it sounds like a nice cheap upgrade even if that isn't the problem.

You can tell if inner tie rods are bad by:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MkaagWF8ws
You'll also feel alot of vibration at high speeds, going slower you'll still feel it but not as prominent. You'll also feel slop in your steering.
You can tell if outer tie rods are bad by:

Also you can move the actual rod with your hand if its bad.
Usually you can tell your steering components are bad by driving on uneven road and if your steering is full of alot of play and jerky you need to start narrowing down things.

1.left foot on brake pedal
2.Put car in drive
3.with right foot tap on accelerator
If motor mounts are cracked or torn u will feel the engine move up with a thumping noise . Also you will feel the thump on accelerating from a stop.

Update: I finally received the rack bushings from TM Engineering yesterday (took 2 weeks) and I put them in a few hours ago. I took a quick test ride but couldnt get abovr 50mph on these roads so tomorrow Ill try it on the hwy. All felt good so
far but tomorrow will be the test. If its still shaking ill post some pics of some front end parts maybe someone can see something I dont.

Alright, bushings were not the problem. Took on the hwy and the steering wheel shook bad at 55-60mph. The weird thing is after a couple mins it goes away but comes back at different times. It def not tires and I dont believe its engine mounts. When its shaking something feels loose on the driver side near the wheel.
I need to check the tie rod next I think?
