Default Friend is looking at this GS, is it worth the buy?

Have a friend checking out this GS400 in craigslist.

Here's the scoop:

looking for fast sale
full D2 suspension
car runs and drives like a dream
ice cold A/C
PLEASE DONT LOW BALL ME CAUSE YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR TIME .

ALSO LOOKING FOR THESE VEHICALES PLUS 2000 ONTOP
ACURA INTEGRA 1994-2001
CIVIC EX ADOOR OR COUPE 1996-2000
MUST BE FIVE SPEED AND BE WORTH MY WHILE. OTHER TRADES WELCOMED JUST LET ME KNOW AND GIVE ME A CALL

He went to see the car last night and the power locks don't work because of the aftermarket alarm. The driverside seat is done. VSC light is on constant. Body got dings n what not. The rear window sometimes doesn't roll up..you have to play around with the driver switch to get it up. 150K miles, 90K service was done plus control arms. Aftermarket radio with wires ready for amps and subs.

He's going low as 4K.

What do you think folks?

Sounds like he's trying to dump it quick due to it being a money pit. I personally would hold out and spend more on a better example.

Seems alot of work. Probably better off spending a bit more for a better quality.

Definitely sounds like a money pit but if your friend is set on that model/color and is willing to put in time and money for the repairs, then he should buy. He might be able to negotiate a lil more on the price if he points out the issues and costs of the repairs... Good luck!

Power locks dont work because the actuators may be bad OR because the electrical system in the car is bad or because he fiddled with them. The locks should work manually on all doors. If they don't something is wrong. An aftermarket alarm does NOT in any way affect the oem locking system in the car.

Driver seat can be had for around $100.00 maybe a bit more if you look on ebay. Entire tan interior should go for around $500.00 for good condition seats.

Make sure the sound system works, if he's pulled out his 'system' get him to hook something up to it to make sure everything works.

VSC lights on are a big problem because it could be any wheel sensor, yawrate, or trans speed sensor, or computers. Hard to tell without a lexus, or snapon scan tool. Diagnosing this is nuts. Make sure the speedometer works, if it doesn't bypass this car.

Rear window regulator; cheap part.

I'm not sure that car has the correct mileage, I'd carfax it. $4k for 150k miles sounds a but iffy -- lowest I've seen some GS's go for is around 3k with like 190k miles -- but those were somewhat dealer prices.

List the car for sale on ebaymotors. Enter the vin and set the price ridiculously just encase anyone buys it from you. Open your selling and check the free "carfax thing" and it'll give a you rough detail of the car's history. Then end the sell.

If you go on Lexus.com, you can look up the dealer service history for free.

your gonna spend upwards of $1500-2000. Little things add up. I rather have ONE major problem then 10 small issues

There's a reason it's getting lower. $3.8k?

If your friend wants to spend as much, paying $20.00 for a carfax to verify things are in his best interest.

Better to spend $20 knowing the history, color, location and correct mileage than for-going that $20 and having to end up spending thousands for repairs or losing hundreds trying to re-sell it.

As the British would say in those Automobile shows I have seen in the past...That appears to be a Dodgey Motor!
