OIL: High Mileage or Full Synthetic?
#18
I bought my GS400 almost 5 years ago with 106,000 miles on it and since owning now with a 146,000, I used nothing but mobile 1 synthetic, and its been fine, I wouldn't want to use the high mileage stuff I used that in one of my other cars and then switched back to regular oil and seen I quickly had to switch back to the high mileage stuff.

Bumping up an old thread.
I have a 1998 GS400 with 179k miles that has always used conventional oil from the Toyota Dealership. I recently took it to my independent mechanic for some work and he threw in an oil change. When I got the invoice back I noticed that it said "Synthetic Blend." What is a "Synthetic Blend" and how should I be handling my oil changes from here on out? Am I able to go back to conventional? Should I move to Synthetic? Is it recommended to switch to synthetic if I'm at higher mileage? Thanks.

I started to use synthsized oil since 45K now 145 it does have leak here and there not easy to identify, include cover gasket - replaced and oil pan I think.
For old car pls use high mileage oil which soften seals to help reduce leak. if you change oil on time, syn oil won't increase engine life I think. Till now I change oil 8-9K now I want to change it 6month no matter how. I don't drive more than 15K a year.

Regular cheap conventional oil
Change every 5k miles, that’s all you need.
