Default Replacement master key?

I jsut bought my 04GS430 and the only key they gave me was the Valet key.... So I need to get a master key with the alarm on it, etc.. Is there a vendor of choice for this?

THX,

Lexus of Westminster, CL discount too. Or buy a used key from someone and then recode it.

mostly Lexus dealers. $150 in my area in NorCal. You just have to provide proof of ownership and VIN#. They cut and program it for you in 10 mins.

That is correct Brian. You need the master to program a new key, otherwise you need a new ecu and new key programmed to the new ECU.

I thought that was for 01 and older. I know the ECU's needed to be changed if you got a new master key. To my understanding the 02's and up could be reprogrammed without a new ECU.

Yea I also have the same problem... Called the dealer and told me that you could just reflashed any 02 and up 2GS. By they were trying to charge me 2 hours of labor, which is like $300 on top of the cost of the key. So $400-500 total just to get a new master key if you only have a valet key.

Anyone know any cheaper route around the Norcal/Bay Area?

The dealers here in the NorCal area has different options. Best case scenario, your valet key is programmed to be a master key. Will cost $147 for key and $25 for reprogramming +tax of course. (ask if they can waive the reprogramming fee, they waived it for me as a 1 time courtesy).

Next scenario would be your vehicle has never had its ECU changed (bring it to the dealer and they can tell you). Dealer would change this one time only and charge you just $130 for the labor plus cost of a key $147 +tax.

Worse case scenario, previous owner had the ECU changed. Now you would have to to pay for the actual ECU + Parts + labor + key etc... Around $700 to $2500.
