i picked up a 99 SBM GS300 last March w/ 133K. Since then I've had to do some maintenance, but its just part of owning an older car. Currently now have 198K and the car runs and drives great!

Below is a list of the things i have done:

Upper & Lower Ball Joints DS+PS
Timing Belt
Water Pump
Timing Belt tensioner
Coolant Flush
Transmission flush
New Tires
New Brake Rotors & Pads

I currently have an Evap Purge valve CEL but I plan on getting that repaired soon.

Body is flaw less besides some road rash, but hit a deer on the way back from vacation and got that fixed. Last thing i would really like to replace is the drivers side headlight (turning hazy). Might replace (HID model) or try a 3M headlight restoration kit. Anyone have any luck with those?

Repairs can be expensive but I have a buddy at the local dealership thats a service manager so i guess that helps a bit.

I agree that lexus don't last forever as others claim. But if you know how to do most of the stuff yourself it would save you lots of money just like any car. I have 195k mi on mine and still drives like new. I got it when it was 120k mi 5 yrs ago. Other than the occasional maintenance like oil change, I have not spent anything major so far. This year i've spent $300 for timing belt and water pump, Plugs and plug wires $120, cabin, air and fuel filter $80, upper / lower ball joint $250, valve cover gasket $80, Drive belt $60. I think this should be good for another couple of years. Very reliable if you take care of it.

i think it will last a long time, in terms of the engine and drivetrain with scheduled maintenance;

But there will be wear an tear on everything else, specifically the suspension which doesn't have scheduled "maintenance" per see other than "inspect" (meaning a hidden replace when worn). be prepared for all the creaks and groans you get from high mileage, and if you don't start refreshing the suspension it will still drive, just not drive as good as it used to.

Mileage is only part of the story. Years in service, former drivers (old ladies vs modders) and location are also important.

Rust and wear / tear on suspension components would be my 1st concern.

I got mine with 214k 2 months ago and i had to replace engine and tranny and the brake master cylinder... Now i have to do the suspension and get some new rims and im good to go hopefully.

I say go for it if is for a good price and if you got the budget to work with it.
Good luck!!!

can someone tell me if yall think its work it for a fuel injection cleaning service? i have 165,000 miles and a little over a year ago, i did have quite a bit of work done on the car. the local lexus dealer wants $130.00 for the service. she just chuggs gas. i know thw quality of gas has gone down and as a car ages, gas miliage suffers just needing to know.

thanks for the input
