Wow, you got a LOT on your plate. New child, new wife, new car, new car that's a giant question-mark / borderline basket-case.

Seriously, I hope you have a great time rehabilitating your GS. It's an awesome car for a guy who is getting to be more mature in his outlook and wants to show that he's come into his own as a man.

Sorry to get all philosophical on you, it's the privilege of advanced age.

Definitely. Oh don't worry about it, I laughed myself to be honest. In light of all that, I don't take anything to heart, especially over the internet. It's a public place and everyone's entitled to his or her own opinions. I'm aware that my tastes aren't for everyone.

LOL...yes sir. Loving them all. Definitely going to take my time w/ the GS. I do not plan on going overboard but I do like aggressive wheels and styling. I hope to package both conservatively. This time around I planned to keep everything simple, but the more I browse the more I fall in love the VIP auto fashion. All that mumbo-jumbo is down the line for me though. My number one concern is building a healthy heart. If I do remove the engine, I'll also rebuild the transmission while I'm there....so for now that's my focus.

Im willing to wager that if you redid the timing belt that car would run correctly.

Was there any coolant in the oil pan?

If I were you I'd drop the oil pan completely and check out the girdle. Also,l remove the head while you're there, change out the starter parts, new intake gaskets, headgaskets, etc (assuming that the motor is bad). Do the timing belt, water pump, etc while you're there. Buy your parts from Sewell online as well - big clublexus discount.

I got my GS in worse condition than yours but my motor and mechanical things were fine. All I did was do my timing/water pump/crank and other preventive maintenance along with suspension work/brakes and added paint.

It's going to be a long, painful and drawn out process.

Since I have a GS4 you can shoot me some messages via pm -- and I'll hit you up with my email to help you out.

I'm sure it would help. However after finding water in the cyl. yesterday I wouldn't dare to drive it even if that corrected the running condition.

AMSMIKE Also Referred me to sewell, I'll definitely keep them in mind for parts. Your suggestions are right inline w/ what I'll be doing of the course of a rebuild. First, I Plan on doing a leakdown, and dropping the oil pan that'll dictate how deep I go w/ a rebuild.

^ Looks like theyre on the low side of the hill brother.. "/

Did you happen to try to crank the car alot since you got it? You could have flooded the cylinders with fuel and that could have caused the oil to dissipate, you need oil in there to truly test it out. Take a cap full of motor oil and pour it down each cylinder and then redo the test. Should get higher than 156 or you either have bad rods or the valves are sticking.

If you know how to build your motor get a new head Auto Quest and West Coast Auto has L&R heads, the block are harder to come by but you can pick up an entire motor for about $900-1000.

Yes sir it appears so....Are these engines non-rebuildable? I'm asking because you suggested new heads, and a block vs. rebuilding my longblock if it's salvageable.

2 left side cyl. have water, and the right side 2 also have oil. I didn't expect the numbers to be high as they were preformed cold. I still here what your saying, I do have some real low ones. I plan to do a leakdown as I stated above, get some more info. After the teardown I'll consult a machine shop and go from there. I'd prefer to rebuild this engine if I am able too than buy another used one.

do you have a link to auto quest or West Coast Auto by chance?

Diagnostic Techniques ( that were included w/ gauge kit )

1. Oil in dipstick tube indicates psi. escaping from the cyl. into the oil jacket. This usually indicated stuck, burned or worn rings or cyl. walls

2. Radiator filler opening bubbles or sound indicates psi escaping into the coolant jacket. This can indicate cracked cyl. walls or damaged head gasket. In case of a damaged head gasket, often two or more adjacent cyl. will show the same problem

3. Adjacent cyl. indicates a damaged HG.

4. Tail pipe indicates burned, stuck or worn exh. valve.

5. Carb or IM indicates stuck, burned or worn intake valve

Onto My Results:

....I plan to drop the pan tomorrow morning or Friday evening if time permits.

rebuild the motor...when you do, use the 1st gen rods...they are much stronger than the 2gen.

That's the same thing lextreme suggested. What would be a fair price for the 1st gen rods? In the future I'd like to go FI. Nothing more than 500, should I invest in H-beams or stock 1st gen rods will be enough?

500whp? do h beams. 400 or under, do 1st gen. Not sure where to buy the rods at a good deal though. Remember, the 400's are a pain in the butt to go FI unless you do a standalone. Those Toyota ECUs love to learn and love to fight piggy backs.

I see. Haven't dug that deep, now that you mentioned it I probably won't shoot that high. I'm not a fan of standalones. I know they work, just not an avenue I want to go down.
