Default Why ABS activates when doing a broken u-turn?

Just about everytime I make a u-turn and have the wheel all the way to the right when I hit the brakes the abs activates harsh to the point I can't stop unless I pump the brakes(almost hit a pole once). What can this be? I don't have cel for abs. I'm stumped.

So you loose hydraulic pressure? does the pedal sink? are you sure it only happens when you turn the wheel? which direction? what speed? slowing down or fast & furious 180?

No loss in pressure.
No sink.
Yes only when I turn the wheel.
So far I've only notice it while doing the u turns...so yeah.
Left.
Sloooww. 5mph max.

Just keeps pulsating(abs activated) and won't stop. I have to pump the brake and/or straighting the wheels.

Sounds like a sensor or sensor ring issue. I've seen cars before with cracked speed sensor rings on the axles that will cause the ABS to activate, especially in low speed situations. Might want to check into those. Make sure your wheel bearings are tight and have no play also.

Yeah, it sounds like the ABS ring or toner ring I think they call it. That sucks cause I'm pretty sure you have to buythe whole axle instead of just the ring. Although, there is a DIY on here about fixing the ring. Do a search. If you can't find it I will check back tonight.

I know for sure the ring isn't available by itself. Part of the axle. I'd try to find a used axle from somewhere.

It's probably the sensor getting rusted out. I'd check that before anything else.

Can someone tell me or show where to look for this sensor/abs ring?

Just take the wheel off, you will see the wires going to the sensor. Alot of times it's as simple as the wire is broken. You could also test it with a meter at the connection behind the headlight to feeds the sensor, to see if you have a short.

If the wire was broke though you should have an abs light on the dash. So like mentioned above the sensor could be rusted/dirty or the ring could be cracked messing up the readings. You just have to disassemble it to inspect no way around it.

I have same issue. I was told to remove ABS fuse. Which fixed the problem but dash lights went on. I just ordered new rear wheel sensors. Both sensors cost $500.

Not sure where you got the rear sensor for $500 that's too much, I think the rears are like $120 tops from sewell.

I have the same issue... it initially only happened on U turns but now it happens if I'm braking and the steering wheel is only turned 180 degrees...
I sent the car to the mechanic a few weeks ago but he ended up having an emergency and went out of town.

Its difficult and dangerous to go in and out of gas stations or anywhere with a ramp.
He told me it was the speed sensor but he didn't get to diagnose which one.
