I lowered my car, and the car is too bouncy and the rear spoiler is making noises whenever I hit small bumps on the road. I want to raise up my car back, so I was wondering if I can use the old springs and shock absorbers or do i have to buy new ones?. My friend said no because when you lower it, it damages the shock absorbers and cannot be used again. I want to know if that is true. He gave me his stock springs and shock absorbers because he bought new ones for his car, but when I compared it to my shock absorbers on the car, it looks the same height but his is stock and the shock absorbers have never been lowered.

did you replace the whole strut assembly when you lowered your car?

you should be able to use your old ones if you did.. if you only change the springs and use your old strut them it better to get new ones..

^^^ there is a good chance you blew out the struts bouncing around and if you where to use them with the stock springs your car would feel like it was a boat out on the open ocean. If you have a set of used unabused struts try them. GL

This is why whenever I lower a car I always want to use coilovers. You can lower the car as much as you want, and still have a good amount of strut travel.

Using lowering springs on factory struts is a compromise, its only a matter of time before the strut seals give out and your ride will suffer.



Funny thing is, my GS will arrive in about 2 weeks, and I think my new coilovers will get here BEFORE the car even arrives. Hehe. The factory suspension is not going to be on the car much longer...

If your car is bouncy, most likely your struts are done.

yea, if its bouncy 9.99 times out of 10 ur shocks are blown... hahaha or the springs u used are cheap... but it wontbounce as much if u put ur stock springs back on the shocks, it just gives it a lil shake on high speeds, might ware out ur tires.

ok, i raised my car back up with the stock springs and shocks. (i used my friends shocks for all 4 of them) After the alignment, which went horrible, because the steering wheel was straight then went crooked after a few miles of driving, the car sounds and drives horrible. Every time I hit those bot dots on the streets, it makes a weird noise. When I turn the steering wheel left and right, it makes a bump/clunk noise near the suspension area. Same thing happens when I hit a dip at pretty high speed. Everything is tight and everything looks good before it left the shop. Any ideas?

Worn out bushings and struts

You people are not going to believe this but it was all alignment. I re-did the alignment, and the car drives smooth now. Steering wheel shakes at high speeds but that is because of the tires.

i would definitely recommend double checking your bushings, its varies when it does go out but i know i had a problem with that at approx 90k. I also did the exact same thing and did an alignment also, but the shaking was from the bushings. not just the tires.
