Will condensation in the headlamp cause the HID to burn out?

in answer to your question, no. HID's are suppose be be able to be submerged in water and still work. So a little condensation shouldn't do a thing

still dont think the moisture is what killed it. When I did my first retro, I sealed them wrong and had heavy condensation and puddles of water in them for a good year-year half with no problems. If these are your original bulbs, your car is 12 years old, could just have been the end of its life. I believe they are guarantee for like 10 years and actually I think I remember 5000 hours which in 12 years is about an hour a day

...from experience.
1) if you're headlight is flickering and/or shuts off. and then you turn the headlight switch off and back on and the headlight stays on for a little while and then shuts off again...it IS the BULB! I have been through this. Simple way to find out is to temporarily swap out the bulb from the good side to the bad side...if the bulb stays on then it must be the bulb
2) As someone mentioned earlier condensation will NOT do anything to the HID bulbs; I had condensation for a while, I re-sealed the headlights and all is well now. Since the ballasts are not in the headlight housing area...they would not be subjected to prolonged moisture/condensation for them to fail.

So wait...you guys are saying that condensation in the headlight will NOT in itself cause the HID bulb to fail?? I just bought a 2005 rx330 and everyone is telling me its the water that caused the light to go out, but it could in fact just be that it is a 15 year old bulb?? And Won't cost 2Grand to replace the entire headlight assembly??!!

You're in the GS section, but yes, a 15 year old bulb could just be on its way out and it does not cost $2,000 to replace that. Even replacing the entire headlamp assembly with a non-leaky one should not cost anywhere near that much, more like a few hundred dollars for a used one.

Thank you!! I think I will try the DIY sealing the assembly, I wish I could see the pictures in the tutorial, for some reason they are all blurred out. And replace the bulb & maybe the ballast if needed!! Thank you again!
