Called AAMCO to get a quote on just labor and here was our talk:

Me: Can i get a quote on just labor to replace an o2 sensor on a 01 lexus gs430? I'll provide the sensor for the bank1 sensor1.

AAMCO: o2 sensors are very very difficult to replace and it will take several hours to do. Specially on cars like yours. We had a Lexus in here the other day that replaced their o2 sensors and it costs over $1,000

Me: What the..

AAMCO: i can't give you an exact quote.. nor can i give you a ballpark figure. You will have to bring your car in and get it diagnosed which will be $169. But if you fix your car with us, we'll waive the $169 after we are done fixing it.

Soooo.. i just ordered the o2 SEnsor Tool ($9) and the Denso o2 Sensor ($70) with free shipping from oxygensensor.com - should be here in 2 days since they are located here in SoCal.

I also tried to return the OBDII reader to Autozone but they wouldn't take it cuz it was slightly opened. If you're in the market for one, make sure you get it from ebay for $25 instead of paying $50 like me.

Doesn't AAMCO do transmissions? The 02 sensors are easy to get to. I changed mine in 20 minutes after it was on jack stands

Yeah, you'll have to get at it from below. If it doesn't come out easily with some muscle and PBlaster, you'll have to take it to a mechanic. When my Bank 2 Sensor 1 went out, not even the mechanic could bust it out with a torch and 3 foot breaker bar; the sensor had fused itself into the manifold. I had to replace the entire Bank 2 exhaust manifold.

Ok.. just finished doing my sensors. to help anybody doing theirs here's some tips:

1. GS 300's have different sensor locations compared to the GS 400/430. Most of the DYI's on CL is for the GS300 so dont' be surprised when you can't find the sensor

2. I have a GS430 so i will be speaking specifically for that model.

3. All 4 sensors are accessible from the bottom of the car.

4. Removing the sensor is the easy part. The hard part is removing the harness. Specifically for the Bank 1 Sensor 1 which is on the driver side - the harness is in a very hard to reach location. There are obstacles that limit your reach. On top of that, there is a clip that holds the harness which is shaped like an arrow. I had to use my stereo install pick to pry it out.

Once it's out, there is still a heat shield protecting the wires so unhooking them will be difficult due to the way that the heat shield obstructs your access to it. You will need to be very patient and have a tool to unclip it.

5. You will be doing most of the work with 1 hand.. there is no room for 2 hands in there.

I found all of this the hard way.. Sensor 2 are probably 100x easier to change considering the harness is easy to access.

Good luck to any of you GS430 owners changing bank 1 sensor 1.

Nice Brian. That means you are using good gas and taking good care of your car. My car needed a smog for california biannual smog check routine and it passed with zero emission.

Hey guys do you really think Denso o2 sesnors are preferrably more smart to use on luxury cars such as Lexus and not NGKs? I'm debating on which I should buy. Can someone lemme know if they're Denso o2s have been reliable and if so, how many miles since installation?

I'll have to bump this thread up again.

I'm having the bank 1 sensor 1 problem in my GS430.
Does it make a difference if I have a RHD car?

I mean, isn't the sensor 1 always under the driver? So in my case on the right side of the car?
Looking at this diagram it says bank 1 is on the left side of the car so shouldn't the sensor 1 be on that side too?

I'm confused of what sensor to change and from where (more precisely is it the passengers or the drivers side sensor?).

I assume the order of the cylinders and banks don't change whether I have RHD or LHD car.
