Advice on a '99 GS300
Hi fellow GS owners. I'm usually on the ES forums (as I own a '97 ES300), but I'm coming to you guys for advice. I test drove a black '99 GS300 yesterday and just fell in love with it. I've posted the craigslist ad below. Does $6995 seem like a good price? It seems like there is some wiggle room on the price, but not much. Everything appeared in perfect working order and it drove like a dream for having 180k! What do you guys think?

Yeah, I'd hope they'd at least do 6.5...It seems like the GS's are super rare in the Portland area. I see people picking these up for around $5K in other parts of the US with less miles...Check out the link to the only other GS I could find in my area LOL

I like the black one because its mostlikely old folks driven versus the 2 tone GS300. Nevertheless, I know a neighbor who has a mid 90's GS300 w/gargantuan miles and it runs excellent. I had mine for approximately 2 weeks now and its really nice. I drive around 45 miles a day for work everyday via highway 59 in Houston, Tx. And, I must say, It's been alot less of stress driving. I drove econboxes i.e. Civic and 89Z300 most of my life and I wouldn't go back to those for sure LOL. Anyhow, I really love the buttersmooth rides and Yes, I'm getting older too LOL.

Your area may be restricting the ability to come upon a "good deal". The car looks very clean, the only flaw I see is the chips around the front grill..and there seems to be A LOT of them. Throw them a CASH offer and see if they really want to move the car. If your cash offer is rejected, don't get desperate, leave your name/number with them and they're bound to call if they don't have any other potential buyers. Good Luck.

I think your gonna get it for 6650 whos with me?
But ya I like the car also, and as far as the rockchips it does have alot but unlike the other silver one its not gonna be reconstructed title nor repainted front end after a colision.
so id definately take the black one I think 7k is the going price though for a good one i seen a ****ty one the other day for 3500 but I think its worth buying for 7k instead of buying one for 3500 and putting everything new suspension parts engine etc, and time.

i just bought my '98 GS400 for $7000 otd from a Lexus dealer. It has all the maintenance records since new from Lexus and has 136k miles. If i were you id think long and hard on this one. The deals are out there, but you have to decide whether you want to wait or jump on this one. Overall it looks to be in great decision... just dont let emotion get in the way of making a good decision.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm definitely leaning towards the black GS300. The rock chips are pretty normal on most cars out here, regardless of age. We don't salt the roads, but we sand the ****** out of 'em! I'm also curious--What kind of gas mileage do the GS3's and GS4's get? I currently get about 17 MPG city in the ES, so I figure the GS300 is slightly less...Do you have to run premium in these??

I just achieved roughly 24MPG with about 70% HWY and 30% CITY. There was a lot of parked idling as well. A/C was ALWAYS on and the driving was very relaxed, 65-70mph on highway. Hope that helps.

If it were me, I would only look at private party sales where I can get extensive service records and can get a read on the previous owner

I paid $8400 for mine. Mint condition, one owner and even have the original sales brochures and car color combo choices she got while purchasing from the dealer Silver and black leather. Bought it from a school teacher that used it as a to and from work car. 107,000 miles. Her husband owns a auto repair shop and did all maintenance to it for her. never smoked in or ever seen a child seat, ie:no forgotten about french fries or cheerios in the back seat. Leather has no cracks or tears and paint was overall good. Engine bay spotless and clean. Very very clean car.
Yeah it was a little more than what i wanted to spend but it was by far the nicest GS i had viewed in the 3 months i was hunting for one. Keep cool and wait and i am sure the right one will come up.
BTW: Private owner sales all the way as long as there are records with it's maintenance.
Now i kinda wished i got a 400-430 though
