Default Why change spark plugs at 60k, and then 120k???

So the maintenance schedule for my 01 GS300 says to replace the spark plugs at 60,000mi, and at 120,000mi for my GS300. If the denso iridiums that come with the car are rated for 120,000mi of use, why waste a ton of money replacing them in half the time? The dealership I use in Sacramento didn't even suggest I replace them at 60k, and instead replace them at 90k with that major service w/ the timing belt. The manual footnote on it refers to the emissions control warranty, which basically is a dumbass warranty that says "your car will pass smog". The butt dyno noticed absolutely no difference before and after the spark plug change at 90k. I also drive my car hard about 40% of the time. So why do they put this little emissions control warranty bs and tell you to get this expensive/difficult service every 60k instead of 90k or 120k? Because car companies make all their money in parts and service that you typically DON"T need.

What year is your GS? The manual for my 2001 GS says to replace the plugs only at 120K, not at 90K.

Depends on how you drive. If you like to put the pedal to the metal i say every 40k if you drive like grandma then you should be fine with every 100k

yes you should be able to reuse them as long as they are not damaged in any way...

I need to replace my plugs, but when I went to do it on the the hex headed bolts that keeps that black cover on, not the engine cover, I want to call this the valve cover but I'm not sure, but the bolt was frozen in tight. I sprayed some WD-40 (all I had) on it hoping to get it to loosen up a bit, but in the end I ended up stripping the head. How should I go about removing this bolt, and where can I get a replacement bolt to put in afterwards?

EDIT: this is for a 2000 GS 300 btw

GS400 98-00 are 90k plugs... NGK.
GS430 01-up are 120k plugs... Iridium.

Sounds like it's time for you to stop wasting your time and go elsewere to find answers to your stupid questions. All of the original owners manual supplements (which includes maintenance schedules) you get when you buy the car new say 60k & 120k for plugs. The cars come w/Denso iridiums from Japan.

Can you get answers on these forums? Or are these forums reserved for snappy answers to stupid questions, and showing off pics of your lowered lexus with 20in" rims, red bushings and strut bars everywhere? Because I've been on here for years now and that's 98% of what I see. 1-2% of the time, I come away with new and/or useful knowledge.
4+ people gave you the answers needed... a few members here said IF your vehicle has the NGK plugs then change it at 90k if you have the iridiums change it at 120k. You do make a point if the manual does tell you to change it at 90k then 120k but i think you might be misunderstanding it? or the manual is not an original? but you should not need to change the plugs that quickly if you are using the recommended plugs.

God you're dumb. 44 posts too! What a forum veteran you are to be telling people to leave YOUR forums. Don't get your panties in a bunch that I knocked your precious little baby. Thanks for reminding me (a former service advisor, motorcycle racer and builder) that there's a maintenance supplement with a schedule in my car. That's the ****ing thing I was asking about. I know what my car comes with, I didn't ask about that. It comes with the 120k long life denso iridiums. Sounds like it's time for you to learn how to read.

Im pretty sure those maintenance intervals lexus intended the vehicle for "normal" driving conditions and not for mountain/hard driving. They do recommend colder plugs for spirited drivers since youre normally in the higher range rpm's than usual so that can also shorten the life of our oem's.

I dont think its an oddity of the manual, they probably expect us to continue following the service intervals beyond 120-150k. Im nowhere near 150k but im guessing its a MAJOR service which probably would have your engine tuned as if it was new again. So following the intervals starting from 30k and beyond back to 150k again seems to be the best bet.
