Default emergency manual release trunk latch??

emergency "kid locked in truck" manual release handle near the latch? does anyone have a pic of what it looks like? i cant find it.

Master key is not working, might be a swapped trunk, and electronic release is not connected (dont ask).

i want to go thru the back seat and manually release it but can find any such manual release?

if anyone has a clue if this exists please let me know.

thanks

If you look at the back of the car from behind the car it is on the left side of center but INSIDE the trunk. It is a handle which glows in the dark, but I guess it only glows for you if you are inside the trunk...

Only way I can think of is open the back seat trunk access (in the center of the back seat) and shine a flashlight into the trunk then use something long to reach in there to pull the handle.

There is no pass thru in the gs, unless you are talking about taking out the seats. The manual latch was not available on all years of the GS, I believe that if you have a pre 2001 there was a tsb in which they retrofitted your trunk with a release, but I have a 2000 and the original owner never had it installed and neither have I. As far as getting the trunk open, maybe you can take the switch out and cycle a 12 volt power to the positive output to trick it into opening.

Wont matter if you take out the seats since you cant pop the trunk open without disengaging the latch. Whats wrong with yours? Why cant u open it?

it was a mandatory law in 2001 that all cars made after 2000 MUST have one

harder to throw people in a trunk they can get out of.

Seriously, that law is such a drag. On top of getting them drunk, now I have to sneak in sedatives to keep them KTFO .

LOL, yeah mang.. what happen was that i swapped trunks. i dont like the stock spoiler on the GS400 so i used my GS300 trunk, but for some reason the GS400 trunk doesnt like the master key, lol, and before i got a chance to hook up the harness it shut on me.

Problem fixed though.

Hows evrything with you?

Notwithstanding all the good comments above, my solution to a jammed truck release is entirely different and worked for me. (Each situation may be a little or a lot different)

Another question not answered above - What do you do if your trunk is full and access to the manual latch is blocked?

I found that with a jammed latch, caused by having too much stuff in the trunk and forcing the trunk to close under pressure, the solution in my case was electronic.

I tried the mechanical spare trunk key until my hand could not take it any more. I was able to force the key to turn clockwise and the trunk and lock would pop, rising only may be 1/16", or so little you could barely tell it.

I found that pressing the dash trunk release or the button under the trunk lid would only sound the tone and nothing else. I reasoned that the electronics might be jammed and needed to be cleared.

Removed one battery cable under the hood, waited 30 sec, reconnected the battery, pressed the deck lid button and bingo, the trunk magically opened!

$1000 cost saved, and a week 400 mi. away from home, with all luggage in the trunk saved.

Why Lexus dealer did not know this trick, who knows?
Why the solution is not in the Lexus manual, who knows?

I'd say that it's either about the money (the typical $1000 service) or ignorance, and neither is acceptable to me.

I hope this helps many others, and shame, shame, shame, on Lexus.
