Yeah buddy that prep work is going to cost you unless you do most of it yourself then it should make the price bearable if you don't want to eat that high price

not a good idea. not a lot of places will paint something if you prep it for the fact they dont know if it was done properly. they may paint it but they defintily will not warranty it.

here it ranges from $3k for a respray without the jams and around $5k - $6k to do the whole car and engine bay but a lot of that is prep and motor removal

Yup, paint is pricey for it to be done right.

As far as prepping yourself, you can prep it a little bit to lessen the cost, but I wouldnt do anything more then take it down to t he base coat or maybe primer if you know what you are doing. Then all they will have to do is lightly finish up your prep, clean and tape and spray.

just to give you a good idea, i had my whole car repainted last summer do to some issues. i took it to my friends body shop who does all high end cars. they spent 4k alone just for all the paint for my car. i think total to paint it was around 7k or so.

4k in paint alone, damn, did you have a custom mix done in house or something? I know paint is expensive, but even for some house of kolor 4k is alot for a solid color job that doesnt require 2-3 different colors to all be purchased and mixed. But I am sure the paint looks perfect. That is just alot for a normal paint job.
