87 Octane Gas Accidently Put In
Hello,
I was at a full service gas station and the gas attendant accidentally put nearly a full tank of 87 gasoline in my GS300. The engine in the car has 60K on it and I don't know what gas the previous owner used. I don't plan on driving this GS300 for performance, just to get from point A to point B, but I'd like reliability. I plan on filling it with 89 or 91 going forward. But this one tank has 87 now.
Should I be concerned?

87 octane won't do any damage. The engine's computer would adjust and burn the fuel accordingly. You probably won't even notice the loss of power, but you will see a difference in gas mileage. I ran my car on 87 octane for 2 months without a problem. Premium gas was too expensive for me at the time.

Don't Panic!!
Our cars are designed to run 91 or 93 octane, but 87 won't hurt it for short term use! I've filled up on 87 when gas prices went up and had no problems. I use the high octane (93) most of the time!

Welp First of all don't know about yall but there is no 91 Octone at least where im from. It's a pain to keep it at that. Filling it up w/ super then when it gets to half filling w/ 89 and alternateing between the two every half tank. If you plan on runnin your baby into the ground stick with the higher grade to reduce knock possibilty. In the summers i usually always run 93 cuz the AC burns up the fuel quicker and it burns cooler than 87, when it gets tough I go 89 but to keep 91 you have to fill up every half tank it get to be a pain. Shvc is right though the computer will adjust to the fuel and 87 isn't going to hurt it. It's a Yota kid 60k you should still have new car smell

omg, the things people do to save a couple buck on a full tank if high grade is $3.50 a gallon and mid grade is $3.40 a gallon and you're on empty, full tank (16gallons) of High Grade is gonna cost $56 a full tank of Mid Grade would be $54.40. I'd rather pay that $1.60 more just to be sure so alternating from mid to high every half tank, gonna save $.80?
To the OP as said 8 times you'll be fine, if you're really concerned, get a $3 bottle of octane booster and dump it in there

I put in 87 octane years ago...and this was over a few months....eventually my car started to sputter and shake. I added injection cleaner, etc....and put in 92 octane after that...no issue.

IMO higher octane does more good than harm, so why not use it I was raised on using crap in my tank, the one day I switched and never turned back. Quite a few instances of "proof" that crap gas is well, plain crap! Using it now and then IMO wont do much if any harm, but using it for the life of the vehicle will have its toll... Performance aside, its got many benefits. I could care less about performance, but I want to keep my insides clean btw, come to find out that my car Loves Chevron much more than the 76 I used to used; I really didnt think it would make a difference... but it did
