Default Would a bad AC Compressor cause rough idle/ jerking?

My mom's 98 GS300 jerks and idles rough when she turns on the AC... Also, when she turns it on, there is a loud sound she said.. I thought maybe it was the AC belt squeeking, but not sure..

Im in a different city than her, but she took it to a Texaco garage and they said it was her compressor... When the AC is off, it drives fine..

Would that be the AC compressors fault, or does it sound like more investigating is needed?

How many accessory belts are there? Which belt controls the AC Compressor? The Power steering belt or Alternator belt?

Thanks for any advice.

Yes, compressor is seized. Replace belt and compressor, make sure ac system is flushed and lubricant is put in with the new compressor.

since i work in the HVAC-R field please explain "lubricant" no lubricant to install with new compressor. there are somethings you do need to do when install but nothing needs to be "lubed"

BTW
in our cars your right it would be green but depending on what type of freon is in the system will determine the oils color. if its mineral oil or POE oil will really determine the color

Earlier this past summer my compressor acted up after adding too much refrigerant which led to some rough idling.

BTW, I called a mechanic I use to go to for an estimate. He said if the Compressor is siezed, then you should replace the drier and expansion valve at the same time, otherwise the compressor will go out again pretty soon... Is that true?
Also, my moms car only has 82k miles.... Can yall think of any reasons it would go out so early?
It is an 11 year old car, but still.

not necessarily true BUT if u install a new compressor it is best to replace the drier and expansion valve for peace of mind, you dont want contaminants getting into your new compressor.

no specific reason it went out they just go out sometimes

Does the condenser HAVE to be replaced? The mechanic glanced at it and said the drier is connected to it so we've have to replace the whole thing.... I'm just wanting a quick repair done to get the ac working safely without going out again in the summer.. What do you guys recommend changing?
1) AC compressor
2) Drier
3) Expansion Valve
4) Belt

Would that be good enough?

mechanics ALWAYS wanna blame the compressor first.
IF YOU CHANGE THE COMPRESSOR, change the drier and expansion valve at the same time but....which ones I recommend depend on a few things...
$ for one as this can get expensive and also the mechanic

Thread update...
Got a remanufactured compressor put it in, a new condensor, new drier, but couldn't find an expansion valve at the parts places I went to so skipped out on it..

AC is cooling, but not super cold like it use too...... Could not replacing the expansion valve cause this or is it more likely something to do with the pressures?
What are the correct pressures for the high and low side anyway?

thanks!

Did you feel anything while driving on the freeway/highway or only at idle?

Thanks

It was at idle. From what I can recall there was little to no issue while driving at highway speeds.

My issue was caused by an overcharge of freon, problem has been resolved!
