Default Wetsand or Don't Wetsand?

Hello all,
I picked up some LS430 retros for my 2GS. One of the outer lens has a deep scratch. Do you think wetsanding and some rubbing compound/polish would get rid of most of it? I am afraid that since the scratch is deep, if I wetsand it may be thinning out the plastic lens too much. My plan was to start at 1500 then work my way up to 2000, then use rubbing compound, then polish. What do you think? Any other suggestions? Just leave it as is?

I plan on applying MotoSkin's clear headlight film afterwards to prevent oxidation and new scratches.

Thanks,
Theo

shouldnt be a problem. the lense is pretty thick anyways so wet sanding wont harm.

ide suggest doing it as a whole or at least a larger area than the small pit... so everything is even. the last thing u want is a wierd indentation on the lense cuz you focused to much on that area lol.

goodluck!

OK..... So I got around to buffing out the scratches with rubbing compound. However, on the passenger side headlight, it looks like the rubber seal is not sealed all that well and now the white rubbing compound got inside and is now stuck in there. It looks ugly!!

I think this pair of headlights has been baked so many times that I don't know if it can go in the oven again. The back of the headlights are real beat up and has quite a few battle scars.

Sorry... I just mounted them on the car today and I love them-- even with the rubbing compound wedge inside the edge of the lense.
