I've been searching for about an hour now and cannot find a torque spec for that 30mm nut that is dead center of the hub assembly.
eg. take off the wheel, and it's dead center there, you can get to it without removing the rotor, and there's a small metal cap with cotter-pin holding it all from backing out.
Mine came off without too much fuss.......felt like maybe 90-120 lb/ft, but I'd like to know the actual torque spec. to put it back on.
Oh, by the way,...I think screwed up the bearing in an incident with a curb. I put on the spare full-sized rim and just replaced the rotor tonight and things are better, but ther'es still a bit of a whir, whir, whir sound back there. Low pitched too, not high-pitched like the backing plate or anything.
I read somewhere that instead of buying just the bearing that I could get the whole 'hub' thing pre-assembled. Does that sound true? Think Carson Toyota would have something like that or is that aftermarket vendor kind of thing?
one little trick i found out to be effective is i pour common sense all over my tires. then right as im about to do a burnout. i dont. then i remember that im in a lexus and not a truck.
I *thought* I had read that you could get the bearing and hub (?) assembly together, then a backyard mechanic like myself could just bolt it in place since I do not have an 80 ton press.
Anyone got any advice on that? I did call Carson Toyota but they said it was not available.
I'm at a loss as to where I would go to get a new bearing pressed in.
Either way, I'm going to need some torque specs on the hub assembly now I guess.
I got shafted by the local auto parts place. They said they were ordering the hub/bearing assembly, waited a week for it to come in, and it's only the Timken bearing, not an assembly at all.
If such a thing is available, I'm really interested in knowing where to get it.
Still could use the torque specs too if anyone has them.
