My compressor is on, but ac is only blowing hot. AC has been working fine, car sat in garage for about 10 days while I was away on vacation. When I used the vehicle for the first time upon return the AC immediately started blowing hot air (not good here in Texas!!).

Figured the system may need refrigerant so went to Autozone and got a can of AC Pro. However, when I connected the gauge to the low side the arrow immediately went to the maximum of the red zone. Instructions suggested to add half a can, tried to do so however no difference resulted.

Had system checked today and mechanic told me that I had a 'low side restriction' - which after further discussion means they aren't really sure, but they want to check the system for clogs and suggest replacing the expansion valve and r&r receiver dryer. Total cost $1025.00.

Before I do this I want to make sure its not something simpler - temp sensor or relay for example? I looked at some previous threads. Servo's appear to be operating correctly, not stuck in one position.

Would a simple AC Flush be worth doing to try and clear the restriction/clog the mechanic thinks I might have? Is their a DIY thread for an AC flush?

I have the same problem. Slowly the AC started blowing warmer. Sometimes after turning off and on many times can get cold air to blow. R134A filled two years ago, no leaks found. AC blend door actuator replaced one year ago.

1000 bucks seems kinda pricy. just get a new accumulator/reciever/drier and expansion valve. take it to a shop have the freon reclaimed/replace the parts and then take it back to the ac shop to have them pump it down and put freon back in it.

the valve is about 30 bucks...the reciever/drier is serviceable to the tune of about 9 bucks for the parts. so you are looking at 50 bucks max for parts plus freon. For 25 bucks you can get all the "flush" you need. After you flush everything make sure that you put the right amount of the right kind of oil back in. it is pretty simple to do all of this, watch some u-tube videos on the subject, there are plenty of them.

the ac guy you went to is ripping you off.

while you have it apart and open, replace all the o rings. As far as being a restriction, there must be another problem, like a compressor going out or something. The system is a closed sealed system, so if there is a "restriction" it is from something internal going on. I have found that when you are fixing an ac..just replace everything and you are good for another 13 years. You can replace the compressor, service the accumulator, replace the lines, condensor, and evaporator for less than these guys want to charge you to "try and find an obstruction".

For some reason this is the first thing everyone assumes.. If the system infact does need freon then you have others issues to resolve.

What you need is someone that knows how to read a set of gauges.

It is blowing hot air on both sides? I have a similar problem when my passenger side gets warmer gradually even thought I turn the dual temp off/on. I've had to add a can every 6 months, so i have a major leak or something.

Replacing everything just to get the AC working is like replacing the entire engine because one of the injectors is clogged.

Sorry to say this but those ac kits they sell in stores are junk and actually do more harm to your system then good.Your better off to have the toyo/lexus dealer doing the ac service for under 200bux.

My GS300 also does not blow cold air intermittently.

Out of 30 mins of driving, the cold air always runs out every 7 to 8 mins. The no A/C feel usually lasted around 1 to 2 mins.

Any solution?

Anyone also knows the low and high reading number for 2001 GS300 a/c reading?

Do you see bubbles in the a/c sight glass in front of the condenser when the a/c is on? If so you are low on freon.

It is best to use high/low gauges but if you are recharging the system buy the cans that are pure freon only. Do not use freon with additives or stop leak sealers as those are junk and can cause problems in the long term. When recharging the system slowly add the final can until you see no more bubbles in the sight glass. Just a quick way of topping off the system if needed.
