Default Maintenance Question (Timing Belt, Water Pump, etc).

Hey Guys,

I am currently at 112,500 Miles with my 2000 GS400, and I am looking to replace my timing belt, as well as the water pump. The 90k service has not yet been done.

I have selected the following parts to order and have my mechanic to install. I was wondering if there is anything else you would recommend when replacing when doing the timing belt job.

1. Part Number: 1354050030 Camshaft & timing - Tensioner Tensioner, ls400, sc400 - 4.0l 1990 - 1994
$53.50 $0.00 $44.40

2. Part Number: 9091602586 List Price Core Price Your Price

Maintenance & lubrication - Engine service - Belts & pulleys - Serpentine belt Serpentine belt, ls400 1990 - 1994
$50.37 $0.00 $41.81

3. Part Number: 90311A0001 Front crank seal Front crank seal, lx470 - 4.7l 1998 - 2007
$9.55 $0.00 $7.93

4. Part Number: 162710F010 Gasket Gasket, lx470 1998 - 2007
$5.57 $0.00 $4.62

5. Part Number: 1356809070 Timing belt Timing belt, gs400 - 4.0l, 4.3l 1998 - 2000
$52.33 $0.00 $43.43

6. Part Number: 161005927583 Water pump, gs400 1998 - 2000
$143.07 $0.00 $118.75

Thanks.

You should flush ALL your fluids(Brake, Transmission, Differential, Radiator, PS) if you haven't already, Spark pulgs, Carbon Cleaning, and Drive belt as well. I did all mine at 90k at the DS, cost me too$$$. Good luck.

why are you selecting parts of different engine? I know some parts can be shared but just curious.

Thanks will definitely do that.

Not sure what you mean. I thought these were the parts closest to the timing belt, and since I'm doing that, it would be easier for me to replace them now (as service was not done) than later on.

Maybe he means the fact that you've got LX470, LS400, SC400, and GS400 listed. See below:

Now do you see what he's talking about? It seems highly unlikely that the seal and timing belt are the same for a GS400 and and LX470, given one is a 4L and the other a 4.7L.

Might want to double check your numbers/parts.

Oh, I see.

I got the part numbers off a past-thread (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...w-to-soon.html). I checked the part numbers with Carson and they were all compatible with the GS400. Also, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for the GX and GS to have the same seals, and the GS and LS to have the same timing belts, given the same engine platform.

fwiw, if it's not much to rebuild your starter (if it's still factory).. I would do that too. Parts are like $10. I made the mistake of forgetting about it when I did my 120k service. It now only starts up after a few tries. I wish I would have just thought about it before, while everything was apart and saved on labor.

timing belt doesn't involve taking off the intake manifold assy.

Default thread highjack

This is for those who are contemplating replacing cam seals for the 400.

IS IT POSSIBLE to remove the camshaft timing tube from the intake cam leaving the cam in place by just remove the front bearing cap and unbolting the drive gear? It looks like it may be possible but I don't know...

If the intake camshaft must be pulled must the exhaust camshaft be pulled as well?

Here is how it it shown in the FSM
