I have this code. We all know that it could be 1 of 4 things to trigger this code. A short in the solenoid, solenoid stuck open, low trans fluid or dirty transmissions fluid. I've been searching the forum, my.is forum, and the net. I dont have anything flashing on my instrument cluster in my gs300, but the CEL is on. My question is, has anyone done a trans drain and fill to fix this problem. I'd hate to drop the pan before doing the easier steps first. I checked my trans fluid and it's not the red that it should be its not black either, but not nearly as bright as T IV red. I also understand if the solenoid is dead (not clicking when tested) then of course no trans fluid will revive it. I'm going to pick up some T IV trans fluid on my way and do the drain and fill tonight.

I have a 98 GS300, 177k miles and I have that code; bought the car with the code at 174k miles, and when I checked the fluid it seems WAY too much, about double the range - above the "hot" level. How do I bleed it out a little..? Maybe that could fix it. Otherwise, it's a 3 speed car right now I get in the car, put it in D5, give it gas and it almost instantly shifts to what feels like from 1st to 3rd (could be 4th), and then from there it has one more shift to the final gear which does feel like 5th, but seems there is no overdrive and you can only imagine how much gas I put in it, and I can never try and make a quick left in busy traffic because car has no power due to higher gears engaged.
I have 5 qts of T4, thats two drain and fills for my gs300 since it drains 2.5 qts. In the past, a simple drain and fill always felt like it made the car shift better.

Okay, I did a drain and fill and drove approx. 3-4 miles and the check engine light turned off. No more CEL. I'm so glad I went this route first rather than dropping the pan and "bending" the pins. That method seemed too risky to me. In two days I will do another drain and fill for good measures. Car is back to shifting normal! Hope this helps other people with the P0763 solenoid C code.
**UPDATE** I drove to work which is over 20 miles with no weird shifting and no check engine light on, the code cleared itself. It appears that dirty or dark transmission fluid was the culprit which was causing the solenoid to get stuck either open or closed. The car is back!
**SECOND UPDATE 8/12/2013*** Still no "Check Engine Light"

So speaking of gs300 01+ mine just started some trouble...for a while there I felt 2nd gear engaging took a second or you could feel like a clunky shift... now seems not to shift...and u have to really late shift..
Ive always serviced tranny and rear dif.. most recently about 40k miles ago had tranny service done at Toyota..from what the service ppaperwork said they put 10 quarts of fluid it..seems odd considering others are saying 2.5 during a flush..
Im thinking to have fluids flushed again.. and ill have my mechanic look into these solenoids too. Anything else anyone recommends?
I know its been having that clunky shift to 2nd for at least 6 months.. id put some tranny restore stuff in it then from lucus... will have to figure it out..

Car is all back together and fixed. Solenoid was cleaned and hosed down with MAF cleaner especially the nose screen, transmission pan magnets cleaned, new fel pro pan gaskets, no leaks, flushed out all old ATF via return line, fresh ATF fluid. BAM. Car shifts silky smooth and seems to be more responsive. I did bend the pin just a tad bit, just to be safe. $45 dollar DIY. Check engine light disappeared. Thanks again to BOMBSQUAD!!!
$5.21 x 8 qts of t4 = $40
Fel pro gasket = $5.00

I attempted this over the weekend but came across one corner bolt on the transmission pan that sits behind a bar that had rusted bolts, and I stopped and did another drain and fill. I still have a 3 speed transmission, 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear P0763

I just removed the two brackets bolts and just loosened the bolt from the exhaust enough to get the lip of the pan exposed to unscrew. My exhaust bolt was rusted too but luckily it was easy to break it with an extension and some brut strength, ha. Get back under there man you can do it, call a buddy over to help if you have to, but its possible. Good Luck!

Congrats bro on a job well done unfotunatlly for me I went out yesterday to start working on mine so I turn it on and cel if gone so I says to myself ill give it some time then I drove to a car meet say 5 miles each way and nothing so I can not trouble shoot the solenoids with them working properly im guessing to do a flush maybe 1 solenoid is clogging since the car has been parked since thursday im guessing particles have settled and unclogged itself
