Default How To Install Rear View Camera

Anyone have links to pictorial instructions on how to install a rear view camera in the 2GS? Not sure how to install a trunk camera as well as how to snake the wires to either a VAIS unit or a rear view mirror with monitor.

Well wiring is gonna be a sinch, just like running any wires through a vehicle up to the deck. Run it through the already there plastic on the trunk hinge (same route for the wires for the trunk brake lights and license plate lights). As for mounting, well its not a flush mount set up where you'd drill a hole the size of the camera and flush mount it. best thing probably would be to mount it in between the 2 license plate lights, the Esky has 2 mount holes, so just use some short self-tapping screws to mount it. To run the wires, you can remove one of the license plate lenses and maybe shave/file down just a little off the side of the square mounting hole that is there so the Esky wires will go through and be sealed when the plate light is re-installed.

Oh alright. Yea I was thinking of somewhere right in the middle, and will shave some off the licease lense out to run the wiring through then when everything is done might seal it up with some clear Silicone to avoid any water getting in the trunk.
Thanks J Once again lol, you have been helping me with everything with this project so far. And I REALLY appreciate it!

NP, I enjoy helping, just as long as I dont make a mistake, as I made a couple this week Silicone is a good idea. Also, if not self tapping screws, you can mark off where the mounting holes are just drill all the way through and use a nut and bolt for a good seal. Self tapping screws could eventually fall off.

Yea, but I've heard quite a few people having fitment problems with their camera being too big for the hole. (no pun intended) though the wiring would be super easy to run just straight back, I have already ordered the kind that mount onto the car, someone else wanna show us how easy/hard this method is?

This is from eBay. All metal housing. Looks close to how an oem would be. No room inside license plate trim to flush mount a camera.

As you can see, I can see my bumper, which is a huge help when trying to get close to a wall or car when reversing.

I don't have the navigation with my system I'm getting a new Aftermarket headunit. Typically in an aftermarket system there are two yellow ports to plug in video from the camera to the headunit. LIke for example in the headunit I'm planning on getting see on the right side of the rear.

Also I don't have NaviTool. But I found this on their website if it helps: http://www.navtool.com/lexus_GS_98-00.aspx
