So I just bought a 2000 GS-300 this weekend and today I was putting in a battery, when putting it in I switched the negative and positive terminals on the battery and hooked the cables up wrong, It sparked and the horn went off. I blew the ALT relay 120A and some others. I bought a new ALT relay at the dealership for $20 (ouch!). My problem is that I can not get the 2 prongs out of the terminal where it goes from the old one. The plastic box with the little plastic window came out leaving 2 prongs there that just will not come out. I tried everything up to vise grips and called it quits. Does anyone know how to get those things out, The car will not start now and I assume replacing this will do the trick. Thanks.

you have to take out the fuse box and I believe that they are secured from the bottom.

what he said. i believe there are a couple small bolts that hold it in from below once you take the rear cover off.

this might be true.......but that just sounds ludicrous. i mean how would you get it out in the first place without pulling the prongs out if u had to replace something next to it or replace the fuse box or something?

I looked very carefully at the fuse box last night and I believe that they are infact secured from the bottom by a bolt. I noticed a hex bolt head peaking through underneath that would fit in the hole in the prongs of the new relay. If this is true I call this the poorest fuse design ever!. Taking the fuse box apart does not look easy without damaging something. Anybody know how to do it? I'll go talk to the dealership service guys later today and post an update.

The tabs might of welded them to the connectors in the fuse box. Metal tends to want to stick together at that high of electrical current.

actually taking the fuse box apart is not hard. Just unbolt it and the bottom plastic snaps off.

Yes,

Those large fuses are bolted in from the underside!

They must be bolted in for the large current. If you just used a standard compression connector the fuse blade would have melted to the terminal due to the high current-low contact area.

A large contact area can only be got with the blade bolted down to the terminal.

im with jeff, i would think the tabs melted themselves down. i still think it seems silly to have them bolted in from "underneath"

I know this is an old post but is there a how to? I tried to disable my abs and had the same p problem now the prongs are stuck how do I remove them?

Like others have said, yes there is in fact a bolt (or 2) that holds in that fuse.
