another reason to buy a new GS
Well, not really, but I just noticed another difference between the new GS and my 98. On the side windows, the word "Toyota" is etched into the glass. The new ones say Lexus!

Now some people will probably be calling Steve Ganz for replacement side windows!

LexusRules, I can't believe someone would think Lexus is made by ford!! aaaak. I love the fact that Lexus stems from Toyota, what a great place to come from.

That "toyota" to lexus sticker change on the windows is one of only about 15 TOTAL changes made to the GS from 2000 to 2001.....you can read about the changes on Lexus' website, and they did list the sticker as a change.
Here is the list:
4.3-liter V8 engine with VVT-i (but without e-shift!!!)
Revised headlamps, grille and rear combination lamps for sportier look (you know about the grill and rear lamps, the headlamps revision is the blue-green tint everyone talks about in the 01-02 GS's)
Meets Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (U-LEV) certification
High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps (the fact that they come standard?)
New wheel design
Front and rear side-curtain airbags (SRS)3 (I like this feature)
Additional wood paneling (the wood ashtray)
Compass (compass in rear view mirror)
Water-repellent door glass (I wonder how this really works?)
Lower rigid bar Child Restraint Seat (CRS) anchor (what's that?)
Larger exposed dual exhaust (is it really noticeable? we should do a comparison!)
Glass markings changed to "Lexus" (there's our little change )
Fuel cap tether (what's that?)
Two front-assist grips (what's that?)
Occupant-detecting front passenger airbag cutoff mechanism (good feature)
Impact-detecting door-lock release system (good safety feature)
and ofcourse the chrome Lexus symbol on the steering wheel, the little chrome ring around the gear shifter, the revised gauge cluster cover panel, the revised engine cover, and...I think that's about it...

He did say "MOST of the GS owners in the US"....and even if everybody on ClubLexus plus a 1000 more people take sharp turns like that all the time, we are still a very small percentage of the total number of GS owners in the US. But it still can prove to be a very useful feature....I wonder what it looks like? anyone have pics of the interior??

The water repellant glass does work! It is only on the front side windows, not the rear. You can see the difference.
The rigid bar is a new legal requirement starting next year or the year after. It allows you to hook up a new type of child/baby car seat.
The fuel cap tether is just a plastic cord that attaches the fuel cap to the car so that you can't forget to put it on and leave it at the gas station. A lot of cars have this, earlier GS's didn't?
Love my '02 GS430.
