Thanks OP! (though I'm not sure if you're still here). Just did mine too and there is some obvious improvement. This is the best kind of DIY, the easy kind.

Glad I came across this thread. My trunk was on the softest settings with the spoiler and it used to slam shut. I just switched to the farthest hole and wow what a difference.

Tried it on my car, but I think it was originally non-spoiler. It was already past the strongest point with an extra hole drilled in, so I tried the weakest setting and it was torturous to lift. It seems like it would be really helpful on cars equipped with the proper torsion bar though

Glad I found this thread. When the switch is pressed it just pops out of the locking mechinism, doesn't rise at all. I will try this DIY when I get out of work. My car is spoilerless also, that's the bad part.

Thanks for bumping this thread, i had no idea you could change this. I have a carbon Abflug thingy for my spoiler that increased the trunk weight, so this is great. On my current setting it stays up on its own but it's very precarious!

Freakin' great. Tried mine this morning and they were already on the strongest setting. I don't even have a spoiler so I guess I have to buy new tension rods.

Mine are shot...lowest hole does nothing. So, if I need to replace the torsion bars, are there aftermarket, or do I need to go OEM? 02GS3

Or just drill new holes and move the bars to the new hole. Once of these days I will do it.

It only bothers me in winter.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. Just called Lexus...$155 for replacement bars...ouch. Anybody else know of aftermarket options, would love to hear, if new holes don't do it.

ok...should have tried it before I posted...less than 5 minutes of drilling, and they're like new again! I hit the trunk remote now and it opens all the way (it is on a decline on the driveway, but the most important thing for me is that it stays UP. Thanks guys!

Just FYI:

The full MSRP on the torsion bars is $39.99x2=$80.

Then on sewell you get it down to $28x2=56 or so+Shipping

So the $155 quote you got is a bit out of whack, it probably includes dealership labor.
