Door Lock Acutuators DIY ???

sounds like one of your locks are bad. Mine is doing this again also. I will probably have to replace the front passenger solenoid as the cables have snapped (not my doing but that of a body repair shop but i can't prove it argh!).

I had 2 doors giving me problems where one had similar problems as yours. Back passenger door needed a door lock actuator motor (ebay, Mabuchi") grind the round shaft for a "D" configuration. Make sure to snap that new motor tight in fit and white greese all plastic gears. Reseal the actuator case w/ silicone/sealer adhesive found at Autozone. Second door had a stretched cable end, green end for the electric remote lock function (key button, master drivers door button). Replaced each, works fine. Good luck

Also it sounds like more than one door has more than one problem which sometimes locks, sometimes not. If you can wait and you can manually lock than eventually doors with periodic issues will stop locking remotely all together. Now the symptoms will be more defined. Let us know if they never lock than your problem can be defined and solved.

The design in these actuators use a spring under the gear to return the key lock to center. If your motors are weak the cant defeat the spring. The tale that this is occurring is that when you lock the car the inside manual lock is not fully seated (you can see the red exposed on that manual lock and when you push on it it will be springy) so if you lock all your doors and see the red on some of the locks they are about to go. This spring system also makes the manual locks (from the inside) feel like crap. I guess Lexus did not find nor persue perfection on this one, especially since my 1992 ls40 has never had this issue (obviously Lexus started to cut corners by 1998 once they had everyone brainwashed about there quality)

So i got back inside my passenger door yesterday to fix a door lock/actuator related problem. I had done the door lock actuator DIY on this door about six months ago. Soon after i started having some strange issues with the driver/passenger doors unlocking randomly while driving.
It turns out that one of the rigid metal rods(the one that connects to the orange plastic clip) connecting the actuator to the door handle had come off completely. I removed the door handle, popped the rod back into the orange clip and reinstalled the rest of the door handle. It was a relatively easy fix once i found out what the problem was.
So bottom line, if your having random locking/unlocking issues, this could be one thing to look at.

Door Lock Actuators (another DIY)
After years of feeding of the forum, here's my first contribution.
As we all know, it's not the door lock actuator assembly that needs to be replaced, just the little motor inside of it. A set of four actuators from a dealer are +$200 each.
The set of four motors cost me just $25. And it's sooo easy to dyi! Save your money.
(Afterwards you'll feel like your'e ready to maybe replace a timing belt. You won't be; but you'll feel like it
Replacing door lock actuator motors:
Step 1: (Remove the actuator assembly - See prior posts)
Step 2: Follow my pics.
Step 3: As causally as possible, work "oh, I'm just swapping out my door lock actuators" into every conversations.
Took me about three hours to do all four locks. That's between goofing around, taking breaks and chasing my 2 year old out of my tool box. Once you get the first one done, the rest are a breeze.
