Default Aftermarket GPS Navigation anyone?

I'm currently looking for a GS4 and nav is preferred, but since the pickings are slim - has anybody had any experience w/ the aftermarket hand held navs?

Please Inform the ignorant

i use the portable Lowrance I-Way 500C. It is transferrable from car to car through the cigarette lighter. I also have nav on my cell phone which is a Palm Treo 700W.

You can get the portable ones like Garmin, Magellan, etc. They work well but don't look the greatest sitting on the dash plugged into the cigarette lighter. If you're going to do it, go with a double din built-in setup. You can get the double din piece from Carson Toyota to perfectly match your dash, then go with a built-in touch screen. Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine are just some of the manufacturers to look at. You can spend anywhere from $1000 to $3000 depending on what you get and how many bells and whistles you chose. Most of these will have all Nav systems, IPOD connection, DVD, CD, USB, etc. I went with the Kenwood 8019 with a Nav Module and XM Traffic. It is a great unit as the Nav system is made by Garmin which is one of the best. The Pioneer Nav is pretty good and I don't think the Alpine is very good. The good thing about the Kenwood, is the IPOD connection is thru a USB Port so the load time is instantaneous where as the Pioneer loads much slower. But if you go my way, expect to drop about $2500.00

Best of Luck

I have an Eclipse IN-Dash NAV/DVD and it works awesome. I got it off a buddy of mine for $800 after he totaled his GS430. It retails for $2499

eclipse NAV is awesome. i actually have an Eclipse AVN2454 double din nav/dvd/cd/etc for sale, absolutely MINT with original box, nav dvd disk, all manuals, and remote, if you're interested PM me...

a few days ago i picked up the newest version of the tomtom ONE to play around with since i knew id be driving around everywhere looking for a new car. I cant stand trying to read directions and drive. Ill crash into something or kill somebody if i try. I got so addicted and used to having the nav in my GS i felt like i was going through withdrawal without it; i HAD to go buy MORE nav before i could drive, even if it was only temporary because the new 430 has nav in it stock. yes, i am an *******. anyway i love the damn thing. tested it out on a 4 hour drive to the city and back and it was on point with every turn and exit. the thing knows your exact speed, calculated trip times perfectly, has auto re route, touch screen, full US and Can maps preprogrammed into memory, more maps and updates downloadable online to SIMcard in the unit, and a bunch of other features i havent even started to screw around with yet. at $299 id buy it again if somebody stole it, ha.

I have the Magellan 300+ portable that I use. It works flawlessly. Punch in a street address, and it will guide you right to it. It comes standard with a 2 gig sd card loaded with maps of the entire US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Here it is:

I have the in dash double din Kenwood DNX7100. The nav is flawless, and re-routes are incredibly quick. It uses a built in HD so you can listen to CDs or watch DVDs and the nav still works. Looks REAL nice in the dash as well..
