Using your wire stripper and crimper, connect the Yellow (Battery (constant power)), Red (accessory), and Black (Ground), from the Avic wire harness to the aftermarket (Metra) harness. They are the same colors on both so it’s not hard. Also note the green parking brake is grounded to the black as well as the Yellow MUTE. (Only after doing the Bypass for inputting destinations while moving).

VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is Purple / White on blue plug under Parking brake release.

I just had this same unit installed in the wifes Landcruiser, I love it.. I'm going to get one for the Lexus GS300 soon too. My only regret is paying someone $450 to install it. It did have the bluetooth microphone and the backup camera to run, but a costly install job. I'm going to do the GS300 myself next time.

Question to other members who have the D3 with the carson double din install kit.
I just got mine in the mail and about to install it. I noticed that the unit does not fit snug into the double din faceplate (there is a small gap all the way around). Do your units have the same? I also noticed that the faceplate bezel that came with the D3 is not a very good fit either.
I think that gap is going to drive me insane...anyone have a solution?

Help!!!...Install completed ...no Bluetooth audio or XM??
First off.. Excellent post, this DIY was extremely helpful.
I just got done with the install and have 2 problems. First the bluetooth connects fine with my phone and the microphone proves to be working when I call it from another phone but I can't hear anyone. Did I miss something with the wiring?
Also XM adapter is hooked up..sees the signal and reads stations but no audio output whatsoever...Any ideas?
Otherwise everything else works great! Navigation, Ipod, Movies, etc, etc.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

RCAs will plug in on the otherside. The black speaker wire shown goes directly to your sub speaker. For the ground, you will need to screw it down to a metallic part of your car or trunk. I just screwed it down somewhere on the ceiling of the trunk.
My friend really did not like my crap system from my garage, so he gave me a new one.
Just a word of caution about the highlighted part...IF you get a high power sub/amp system...taking ground here will allmost certainly blow the linouts of your player. And...Pioneer headunits seem to be a bit more prone to this kind of fault....
