Hey,
I currently have a 98LS4 and I've been looking at GS4's for a few weeks thinking about selling mine and buying one. So today i went to look at one and went for a test drve in a 98GS4 with 55k miles. I was pretty impressed with it, the suspension felt stiffer and sportier but the tires were NOISYYY ! Is that normal, i think they were pirellis but they weren't worn out, probably 50% tread? I'm on the market for one i will get 19" and lower the car but do you think that it would be noisy no matter what kind or will it be quiet with better tires.

My continentals were noisy to when i first got my car.. when i got my 19's the noise stopped and made a huge difference. GL

I've got both a 98 GS400 and 98 LS400

The LS400 is definitely a quieter car overall, but the tire noise is not a huge factor on the GS... I suspect it's the setup on the car you drove. Just go drive another 2nd gen GS to compare if you're concerned about it.

I had the OEM 17" bridgestone tires on my car and they were NOISY as heck. I just changed out the front ones to Falken FK452 and they rode smoother, quieter, and have more grip than the bridgestones. I suspect changing my rears out to the same times will make the ride even smoother/quieter.

As far as tires choices and road noise I would steer away from the Bridgestone Potenza SO3 tires for sure. You can do a search in the wheel and tires section for more information. I have had these tires and the howl from them as they wear is awfully bad. Just my .02

They're both great cars and have a lot of similarity in their personality. I think the LS fits me better 'today' and the GS fit me better in 1999 when I bought it. Both have been pretty trouble free, the LS has a lot more miles on it (117 vs about 75K on the GS). The LS is a daily driver and the GS is more of a showcar now though.

You won't go wrong with either... if you're looking for something slightly more sporty or a car with more aftermarket potential , the GS will do great.

I have to agree with Dave in the similarities. One of my friends has a LS, so I have driven both. It all depends on what your looking to do with the car. The GS definitely has alot more aftermarket parts for it.

I liked the sportier feel and the way it sucked the road alot more than the floaty but powerful LSs ride. Thanks alot guys
