best tire size for 20x10.5 rear wheels?
just purchased a set of wheels and now im gonna go ahead and work on the tires and suspension. my set up is 20x9 and 20x10.5. what tire sizes are you guys running on 10.5? I was thinking falken fk451's ... I'm just not sure if I need to go stretched or not to make them fit. any input will help - or tire profils with different specs. thanks guys

I just put a 10.5 on my car with a Michelin Sport 295... it's fat and I'll need to roll the fender this weekend for sure.
it does depend on the offset and tire brand, but you probably wont want to go below a 285 as it seems you'll already be stretched.

I like how the shorter 20" tires look on the 2GS;
depending on your wheel offset, I'd go with something
like 245/30-20 + 285/25-20.
If you use the FK-452, they won't stretch much at all-
Falken actually list the 10.5" as the "recommended" width
for this tire. The 451s will appear more stretched; if you
use 255/35-20 + 285/30-20, the rears will be more
stretched than the fronts.
Are you looking for the stretched look?
If so, go with something like 245/275 for a mild stretch
or 225/35-20 + 255/30-20 for a more aggressive stretch.

wow, thanks for all the responses guys. Specs will be 20x9 + 30 and 20x10.5 +29. I prefer the skinny/ mild stretched look and I plan to lower it right on the tire or barely above it. I guess i need to start researching suspension components. I heard alot about the tien comforts (i prefer to keep the ride as comfy as possible) but i'm not sure if they will go as low as I would like them.
Neo - sorry, im not sure what "traditional" 1 over spec mean - could you explain?
SocalSC4 - wow - thanks for all that info! just what I was looking for! i guess i have to search for some tires size profile pics here so I can decipher between a mild stretch or a more aggressive stretch...

w/ those offset and considering you want to do a mild stretch i'd recommend going w/ a 255 rear. I myself like fat setup but I definitely see what you're shooting for.

For a long time, the tire sizes to have 20s at OEM diameter were scarce. What most people put on were 245/35 (and if staggered 275/30 in the rear). This tire caused the diameter to be 1" larger than OEM. That is why it is "traditional". Until recently, most people on 20s would have that 1" over OEM spec.

With these tire sizes and the car being dropped will it rub when you turn? That would be a pain. I just recenlty got 19" wheels also, I was thinking to go 225 in the fronts and 235's in there rears now I'm thinking not too.. I have 19x8.5 20 offset and 19x10 15 offset.. I have 255/35's on my MR2 those tires look huge..what do you guys think is a good size where you don't rub? Obviously the fenders will be shaved.

You guys are too gangsta for me. I don't know how y'all roll around on 30 and 25 series tires. Pot Holes are crazy in Jersey. I would dare go any lower than a 35.
