GS - 2nd Gen (1998-2005) Discussion about the second generation GS300, GS400 and GS430 (1998 - 2005)

Would you sell your GS430 for a Caddy CTS-V(400 hp 6 speed)?

It really matters which GM car we're talking about. A 2 year old V depreciated just as much as a 2 year old GS.

My '98 GS400 right now is worth somewhere around 14-15K now. A '98 C5 with similar miles is actually worth a few grand more. Both cars stickered about the same, actually a C5 coupe stickered less and is still worth more.

I agree with you guys, the only thing I like more than my GS is the drivetrain....

maybe I'll have to just find something fast to beat on and keep the GS. maybe a 87-93 notch 5.0 stang. I want a V8, and mt. not really into the camaros, gto is still too much $ for a beater and looks like a 4 cylinder 1987 pontiac grand am.
any other suggestions?
This is why I have the GS400 and a 99 Trans AM. With the few mods I have done to the TA I take on 405hp Z06's with ease.. Best bang for the buck is a 97-93 notch by far! If I didn't have my TA I would have one.

Go sit in one, I did a couple weeks ago and I really thought the interior was pretty decent. Caddy made some interior changes in 04 and that was the year I looked at, my dad is also driving an 04 srx caddy SUV and that thing is a great car. Im looking to pick up an 04 or so CTS at the moment, V6 though, but with all the options if I can.

This is all coming from someone who just sold their 1998 GS400, and I cannot figure out why people think the 2gs's interior is THAT much better.

For the money a cadillac is a great deal. 04 w/30k will run me about 17k loaded to the max, and they drive nicely too, much more stiff suspension than the gs.

$13,000 for a 93 5.0 LX? That's just plain crazy. I'm sure that particular car is one of the cleanest ones around, but for your purposes, you wouldn't need anything that nice. That car couldn't have stickered for more than $17,000 new, right?

There are always crazy people posting their car up for sale on AutoTrader. To know what they are really going for look at Ebay. I just sold a mint 1993 LX hatch 5.0 with 68,000 miles for $6,000. For $13,000 you can get a mint 10sec Mustang. A lot of people that try to sell on Autotrader are on crack...

I agree. Naturally, there would be a bias towards a Gs430 as this is a lexus club. Drive the car and experience it before you pass judgement. Don't go by magazines or people who never owned or driven the car. The CTS-V interior is not all that bad. The caddy is meant to be driven as it is a direct competitor to the E39 M5, Audi S4 (as you saw in the video). The Gs430 is a different breed of car, and was not meant to compete with any of the above mentioned. You take care of a car, and it will take care of you. Some folks negelect there cars, thus problems will arise. Lexus Gs4's are not free of problems. It has its share of costly problems as well. Just look on this board for reference. Go with what you crave. You only live once

not that it's worth 13k, but an unmolested notch is worth much more than a hatchback. I'd rather a stocker than someones 10 second project too.

ideal for me would be a stock black/grey 92 notch(last year forged pistons)5 speed.

Not that I would want either but why not just get a Vette instead of a Cadillac trying to be a Vette?

I think the Caddy is ugly. What about a late model Vette?

The Fox body Mustangs are the worst handeling cars no matter how much you mod it imo. That rear axle is a curse. You can get an LS1 GTO for under 20k now if you are not in the mood for 4 doors.

Well to be honest i would say sell the gs and buy an sts-v...my dad owns one and i think its one of the best cars i've ever driven... the interior is nice plus there is a ton of room and if your in the mood to go fast then just push the pedal and hang on.

Exclamation

I OWNED A CTS-V for 1 year and half, if any one has any Question abou the car, eMail me. IT IS THE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED, FOLLOWED BY THE WORST SERVICE EXPERINCES (went to all Cadillac Dealers in San Diego for help) of my life.
Nothing worked, and what worked broke down !
