Default Gauge needles not working and no lights on buddies GS300?

My buddie has a 2000 GS 300 and his Gauges and dash lights stopped working yesterday after he wiggled the battery cable he told me.. Any ideas ? fuse, short, etc... He said the car had trouble starting so he messed with the battery cable and than the car started?

Speaking of Gauges, on the 2000 GS's the needle is not lit, correct? The gauges are backlit, and they are somewhat dark at night for some reason. I tried the brightness adjustment but then the radio gets overly bright!!

remove connection from battery for an hour (or a day - from posts on CL) should reset the whole car and check all fuses. he probably made contact with terminals to the car. pretty sure he left that part out =p
