Default Installing a Viper 791 XV Remote Start/Alarm

Hello,

I am new to this forum as I just sold my Cobra and bought an '02 GS300 a week ago. I would really like to have a Viper 791 XV installed and I noticed a ton of people on here have them. I don't really understand the whole thing with the key under the dash to use the remote start. My car only came with 1 key so I have no valet key or the others. Is there any way to bypass this or what can I do?

Thanks,
Jim

Do you know the name of it, who makes it, or where I can find one?

Thanks

The reason with the key under the dash is because our cars have transponders in the keys. The car will not start unless there is a transponder present in the ignition. So they basically cut the key into smaller pieces and stick the transponder piece next to the ignition. As for the bypass module I've heard of those, but I don't know the part numbers nor how they work. Maybe transponder code emulation or something like that....

i got the same thread going on in the NELOC (regional) forum... it answers your question:

555 module, bypass, can fail
or the
556 module, universal, using key, never fails

key copy is covered too in that forum, go check it out!

I have the 555x module with my Viper 791, and I did not need a spare key made. Almost a year with this alarm and no problems or service needed. I rather not have a dummy key plugged into the brain of the alarm system for a crook to have. All a matter of choice. Good luck.

I just got mine installed a few weeks ago, and i used the Viper 555x ( thatnks to DASHOCKER) i got it at www.soncielectronix.com for slightly over $40 shipped. Like djjt said, it does have a flaw. My car will start once out of every 3-4 trys sometimes, and sometimes it starts right away, which can get irritating. Would it be possible to use the 555 and then use the key with it, or would i have to get the 556 in order to use the key. Also, does anybody know of another immobilizer other than those that can be used without a key that doesnt fail?

So if I needed the key under the dash I would have to go to the dealer and get another one, which would cost me a billion dollars?

Wow... I never had that problem. This system or similar is a must guys. I don't want to hear more horror stories about "my car was just stolen".

Its strange, my installer told me that it could be a defective immobilizer as well. I bought the system through a friend from best buy, then i ordered the immobilizer from sonicelectronix, and i had a third person install it, and the installer is an authorized Viper dealer too. What im thinking is that since the UPS guy left it outside when he delivered it, it got wet, maybe the immobilizer is damaged! Well the shipping and the DEI box were soaked, but the part and instructions were inside a plasitc bag and appeared to be dry, so i figured it would be ok. I talked to sonic and they cant swap it under warranty because i would have to send it to them and have them send me a new one, or i would have to buy a new one, send them the old one for a refund, and i just have been lazy. Has anybody else had any problems with this particular part?

Please pardon my retardedness, but if I use this... http://www.autopreservers.com/555X.html then I DO NOT have to have a second key to use the remote start? Correct? I am just looking for the cheapest way of getting the alarm/remote start. The Viper 791 XV sells for about 225 w/ shipping on ebay then another 30 for the 555x. You guys think this is the cheapest way to go about getting one? Don't they cost around $500 at an authorized dealer?

Thanks,
Jim

well i would imagine $500 for the Viper 791 WITH installation

and yes, if you get that 555 unit, you don't need that spare second key... but that's the one with the slight problems... and there are two versions of it? the x and u? or something like that... gotta get the right one for your year.
