** Oh double snap, Carson Toyota/Lexus Parts JP Style Tail lights are in **
#153
Ha, I know it is an old thread. I bought my car on January 1 and have been dealing with the tail light out alert; pissing me off. I never got around to ordering resistors, and never thought of just pulling the bulb. PERFECT. Thanks again.

ok i went ahead a did a writeup on how to do this
first pull out the gauge cluster gently remember to pull it straight out
next unplug the cluster and set it aside
next remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster in place (the ones with the white around them)
next gently pull the cluster out a little so you can tilt it upwards
next get a small stubby philips screwdriver and remove the 2nd bulb from the left but this is tricky dont drop it and loose it like i did lol
reverse this process to put everything back together then your done no more light out !! this process takes about a good 20 minutes

Okay so this happened to me today. Very strange. First time in 3 years this happens to me. My whole dash is dark. I immediately got on CL and did my research and this is the closest I got to my problem. So when the dash goes out, what type of bulb did you use to replace??? Please, if ANYONE can reply to this that has had this problem happen to them please let me know. I pulled the trim off the dash today so I know it's not difficult. I'm not scared of a DIY. I just want to assure I'm doing the right job. Is there any other threads pertaining tho this problem alone? Please, let me know any kind member of CL. I'd deeply appreciate it. #GodBless and have a good day CL!

Are you talking about the back green lighting? If so, they're not bulbs and cant be replaced. Its CCFL. People will tap the wires and succeed on replacing them with LED's, however you can get hot spots with them. If you did some searching with the right key words, you'll find what you need. Might be in the DYI links page. If not, search words on "back lighting" or actually even CCFL may work as well and "speedometer"
