Default Gas would not go in properly with CEL on!

Here is the story. Bought the car of NYBLKLEX back in October '05. Check Engine Light (CEL) was on and the codes were P0441 and P0446. He said this happened as soon as he put the SRT Intake. That when putting in gas the car thinks it's full and would click. Only way to put gas is by depressing it which can take a while. Has this ever happen to anyone here before when instlalling the SRT Intake or just in general. Can someone in NYC help me out? I'm hoping that I will not a need a new canister $600.00. That a hose is clogged/leaking/ or something of that matter. This is the only problem with the car and it's annoying me for the past month and trying to fix it.

Thanks!

Subject: P0441 and P0446 Fault Codes

Question
Ted, My '98 Corolla CE (75000 miles, 1.8L engine, mauual transmission) has been displaying the check engine light for approx 6 months, and comes up with the 2 fault codes above (it shows the P0446 code twice). When the fault is cleared, it comes back in about a week of driving. When I checked the gas cap yesterday, I noticed a strong odor of fuel when the cap was removed (much more than my other 2 vehicles). Does this condition point to a specific part being faulty? If not, what do you recommend to check to eliminate these faults?

Answer
These codes are emission control related and indicate a leak in the fuel evaporative system, this is a complicated system and requires technicians that really know what they are doing to diagnose.
If you want to try a simple repair yourself replace the gas cap with a OEM unit from the toyota dealer, that's about all I can recommend, if that doesn't help it's time to get some help from real professionals that can diagnose this kind of problem, there is a battery of tests that must be performed to isolate this problem, my best advice is to get the toyota dealer involved.

best case ....a gas cap

some more
Those two codes are for the EVAP control system (the charcoal canister system).

First thing I'd do is check your gas cap. If it's not on tight and making a good seal, you can get this/these codes. Might try a little silicone seal around the gasket after cleaning it. Be sure to click it for at least three clicks to make sure it's tight enough.

Other than the EVAP system, it can also be an O2 sensor. If you have a scanner, take a look at the sensor outputs to see if they're correct. Might also be a MAF sensor--if you've never cleaned it, try that.

onemore

Symptom: Check engine light on, codes P0440, P0441 and P0446.
Hotline Archive Fix: Evap Vacuum hose off at air cleaner.
Quote: “this archive nailed it, we found vac hose off at air cleaner after element change. gotta love Identifix”

Johnny was onpoint ...replace the gas cap.

if you replace the gas cap and you stil have the CEL, replace the charcoal canister. If you still have it after that then replace the vsv valve.

here... the part numbers are here for the gs300...

The 2nd gen Gs does not have a charcoal canister, but if you guys came with a part# for the GS# well I guess. Jay did you go to Bayridge Lexus yet to diagnose the problem?

Hey,

If this came on only after the SRT Intake install - then I would look at the hose problem first before I would look at an evap leak. The SRT install deals with changing vacuum hoses so concentrate on that.

Read TLW's post again at the bottom and check the hoses.
