I have 4 215/55/16 studded snows on my GS and we have had some pretty bad conditions, mostly ice with a inch or so of snow on top. The GS, once you get it rolling, does pretty well as long as you take it easy. It's more stable and predictable than I was expecting for my first winter in it. The most difficult thing is getting it rolling, even in snow mode the HP and torque is a little much and spins the tires at most stop lights. You need to feather the gas pedal for smooth take offs.

We just got our 02 GS300 a couple weeks ago, and it's snowed ever since!
I had Blizzak WS50's installed and have been very impressed with the handling. Yesterday we got a couple inches of snow and I was out driving around for an hour or so. With the snow button on and the VSC engaged the car handled well and was difficult to hang the tail out without big brother slapping my hand and straightening things out. Shutting off the VSCC and Snow control allowed me to hang out the rear end easily. I found it extremely easy to get it back under control once I was in an oversteer situation.
For a stretch of city driving I shut off everything and found that the car accelerated well without all the big brother stuff.
Now keep in mind I live on the MN/WI border, so I've driven in plenty of snow for many years. The GS replaced an 03 Accord, which started ok, but plowed when turning and stopped poorly in the snow.
The only time I had a concern with the GS was on a cloverleaf simply because I wasn't sure if the car would understeer or oversteer. Minor acceleration around the ramp let me oversteer it right through. I would much rather have that, then plowing into a turn.
