Make sure your spare tire is really tightened down. JB.

i never experienced this problem yet nor have i really looked in the area of the spare tire but could it possibly be the stock jack or the lug nut wrench kit that may be flopping around in there

Does it feel like a U-joint in the driveshaft? Does it do it if you roll to a stop not using the brakes, then do a hard stop? (that might indicate a binding caliper)

Check to see if your mufflers are bolted down tight? Try to shake them around to see if you hear any metal to metal contact.

I have some noise issues on the back and I have an '05 with 6k miles!!!

Good luck on finding the problem!

It sounds to me like something is loose in the trunk or possibly the muffler system as someone else suggested.

The reason I wouldn't think it's the U-Joints is that usually U-Joints would make noise when the driveshaft is changing directions or going from no-load to load or vice versa. When the car is in drive, the driveline is already "loaded" and putting pressure on the U-Joints.

How about when you punch it and hear the thump while accelerating, then slam on the brakes (safely of course) - do you hear the same thump?

Now I've got the same damn 'thump' whenever I pull off, it sounds like the frame is split into two halves and they are knocking against each other at acceleration. Doesn't make the same sound when braking and will only occassionally do it over a VERY rough stretch of road but even then it's occassional. But the only way to not thump is to accelerate slowly (and yeah that's something I'm just real good at doing). It's only one thump and it sounds like it's coming from under the car in the center (driveshaft / u-joint?) More of an annoyance than anything else because it doesn't seem to have affected perfomance at all.
