Default Updating Nav System help

Recently bought a 2000 GS4 with navigation and was wondering if anyone has attempted to update their Nav system maps themselves??
A friend at work has a toyota solara with the latest maps DVD disc and said he would attempt to make a copy of it for me if I wanted to try it myself.
Any help appreciated!

I think the GS4 is a hard drive based nav so I'm pretty sure the DVD will be worthless to you. Not sure how you update the hard drive ones, hopefully someone else will chime in.

Default Anyone know the answer for sure??

Man I am having trouble getting an answer for sure on this one. I've called both of the local dealers here in VA and one said it was hard drive based and COULDN'T be updated at all (meaning the software or the maps). The other dealer said no that's incorrect and that the 2000 GS4 has the 2nd gen NAV unit and is DVD based and that the unit is in the trunk. She also said that I could update the maps data with a latest copy of the maps disc and that the dealer would do this for $325.

I think rominl is right the DVD nav did not come out till the 01 GS430 (when I wrote GS4 I meant 400, not 430 sorry) The second dealer is likely wrong regarding the DVD on the 2000's. Maybe they can still update the hard drive though?

Just take it in there and if they turn out to be wrong they will have to eat some crow.

upgrade the nav sofware is meaning : replace the hard drive (in your car) to a newer version
Lexus has update nav software normally release in October or so.

Instruction on how to remove the HD is posted on my website.

325 is the cost of the new drive with the new software on it

Only downside to HD based nav is the latest update is September 03, no more updates for the 98-00 according to Lexus.
