Wire brush would be the non-chemical way to do it.

But

The rust will come back. All things return to thier natural state (Iron Oxide). I only see a thin layer of rust in the picuture (except close to hub .. brush + wd40 may be needed there). The thin layer of rust once formed, some what protects you from further rust. The one that starts gnawing into metal ... you will start seeing oxide eruptions is the one to worry about.

I am staying with stock but have heard of rust-inhibitor electroplated rotors. They may be the right cure you are looking for.

im not sure if this is a good idea or not but when i had rust on my bike me and my friend cleaned off the rust using coca-cola...

don't try it unless some of the more wiser members think it's okay too.. but when i used coke... the rust came off completely.

I used a wire brush and brake cleaner to get mine clean enough to paint. Painted with high temp engine paint, and no rust since.

Looks great too

I think this might be an overkill. I in my case cosmetic cleaning only is needed. I live in pretty dry climate, so I do not expect it completely fail anytime soon due to the rust. It just looks ugly.

I like how simple that sounds a lot. Does anybody know any reason why I should not do it?

And another question:

Diet or regular Coke ? Please? ))))

from what i understand...you need to have it soak in coke for awhile to remove the rust.....what a waste of coke.

well what we did was we soaked the parts in rust in coke... the coke will eat away at the rust... after we saw the rust eaten away, we took it out and washed it.... i've gotten rust since then but it's easy to get rusted parts on a bike...

regular coke btw... diet coke isn't strong enough... reg. coke is strong enough to eat away at the rust...

again... i'm not sure if this is a good idea or not and how it might affect the performance of the brakes... could any other members chime in if this is okay or not?

Wirebrush cleaned it off, but in about a 4 months rust is back. I did not paint it, because I was told that paint might mess up the break pads.

Easy, slightly toxic way: Naval Jellly, wipe on wipe off...

Green Peace way: Lemon juice and a wire brush.

Power tool guy way: 3M Scotchbrite Discs

Hand Tool Way:: 3M Green Scrubbie and some dish washing detergent.

Donald Trump way: New Rotors...or new car, depending on the mood.
