GS = GS

I don't think it's really an acronym. It's probably derived from the racing designation of "Grand Sport".

Default Yah..

Well, of course it doesn't matter. Sorta.. I mean, who cares, right? Yet again, I know for a fact that LS = Luxury Sedan. GTS = Grand Touring Sedan. GS = ??

I must reiterate, this was a silly question. I just thought GS might have meant something.

Like NT in Windows NT. Not many people actually know that it means New Technology. It's silly how people mis-use acronyms. RBI's (runs batted in's??) or VIN number (vehicle identification number number??).

I imagine r=recreation and l=lux, but what about the x?

heck, even MS misuses their own acronyms.... look at the Windows 2k boot screen "built on NT technology" that one's been annoying the **** out of me since beta 2

The real answer:

The first Lexus GS300 came out in 1993 and owed its distinctive styling to a show car developed by Giorgetto Giugiaro's, a famed Italian stylist. Therefore, the name GS300 for "Giugiaro Sedan" 300.

Minor changes of the original Giugiaro design by Lexus engineers in Japan made the GS300 ready for production.

Other names of the time:

LS400 - Luxury Sedan 400
SC400 - Sports Coupe 400
ES300 - Economy Sedan 300

And that name has followed through to today's GS430 and GS300.

Default Ah..

I love it! This forum rocks.

Thanks to Nanotech for the real answer. Giugiaro Sedan it is! I think I'm going to get a license plate with a GIUGIARO imprint.

Man all these acornyms, i do not know who to believe.
A person working at Longo Lexus about couple of years ago told me this.

LS=Luxury Sedan
ES=Executive Sedan
GS=Grand Sedan
SC=Sports Coupe

I forgot what the LX was and the RX was not even out yet.
