Default First step in 2005 facelift complete! (updated with second step pics, WIN Front&Side)

Step one in my 2005 GS facelift is complete! Finally got the Veilside hood I bought here in the CL classifieds painted and on my car. FIttment of the hood is very good now, but the bolt holes on it were totally stripped out and the bodyshop had to do several hours of work to secure the hood on. This sucker is LIGHT compared to stock and I noticed a slight bit of shake right at the cowl in front of the windshield at speeds over 70mph (other VS hood owners please chip in if that is normal).

I had three grill options I was considering and ended up going with the Veilside grill that matches the hood. I had my OEM grill painted black to fully match the car... it did fit in the hood with a little forcing but didn't like the way the edges were cut off. Same issue with the L-tuned, but a harder fit inside the hood with the big edges. The VS aligns much more nicely, but it has one problem.... it didn't come with any mesh (I bought it new)! From the pictures it doesn't look so bad, but straight on in the daytime you can clearly see the hood latch... I'm not a fan of that look. So I need to find a source for some nice mesh to put behind it.

I take my own advise and did a pretty exhaustive search on CL without a lot of options found on grill mesh. Several mentions of Home Depot stuff that is OK, and this post with McMaster mesh which looks OK. I really like the honeycomb stuff that is behind my l-tuned grill, but cannot re-use it due to the design (the bar in the middle has a solid bar behind it... not mesh).

Anybody got other suggestions for grill mesh sources?

Oh, here are some pics; sorry, the car is a little dirtier than usual. I also don't think I've posted up pics of my car with the Sportdesign titanium colored headlights either .

This is the only feature of the hood I don't really like.... I call it 'the shnoz' where it sticks out a bit further than stock at the front. I guess I'll get used to it but I prefer the stock lines from this angle.

I have the same grief with the Veilside hood as you do. That lil budge just over the grill. But i love it none the less. Looks awesome, and i always enjoy pics of your car! P.S. HRE's look awesome!

Nice job Dave. That "shnoz" is the only part I dislike too.

Looks great Dave! I think the veilside hood looks perfect on black/dark cars but they look kinda odd on lighter cars. I didn't like the hood on the Veilside demo car, but on yours it looks like it belongs there!

yeah same here, i think black does hide a lot of stuff and make things look better. for example the wald kit, i love it on the black gs, but seeing it on the silver gs actaully i dont' think it's as nice

black is a very nice color

Very sexy. Hey Dave do you think the a strut bar would fit under the Veilside hood? I've been thinking of getting the same hood but worried about clearance under the hood.

Well, Dave has the TRD STB so it should be OK.

Looks good Dave I know you don't like the bulge on the hood near the grill, but I do. I think it makes the car more bold and aggressive.

I googled "universal grill mesh honeycomb" and got some results such as this: http://www.parts4vws.com/catalog/pro...rtNumber=41110 It's a 39 x 14 inch sheet of honeycomb mesh for $65.

Two more
