Default Trunk Slams-Can you adjust springs?

My 2001 GS 300 has an after market spoiler on it, least I assume it does.

As a result the trunk springs are not strong enough to lift it when you click the opener, or to stop it slamming unless you really pay attention when closing. Can the spring tension be adjusted and how do I get the trunk trim at the sides out. Can't seem to get the black push pins out without using too much force and trashing them. Tx Machog

Hey Machog did you try search this time? For something like 'trunk slams' in the GS forum?

If you looked for those keywords, you'd find the following threads

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...ht=trunk+slams
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...ht=trunk+slams

The first one leads you to exactly what you're looking for.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=29600

Catching the hint, please use search before posting - most every question you ask is going to be out there already.

Hey Fellas,
Just so you know, you can order stiffer springs from the dealer. The GSs that came with the spoiler/wing from the factory also came with stronger springs. Just order the trunk spring for a GS with a spoiler. I hope this helps.

and there is also an intall kit that you should purchase at the same time too, otherwise installing the springs with such force would be too dangerous

Install kit? I did not use any kit when I swapped mine out. I don't know what is in the kit but I did not feel I needed one. It's a good thing since I did not have the kit.

Default Trunk Slam not cured!

Both trunk springs were in their "stiffest" position when I checked, but trunk still slams. Have it at the dealer for some other warranty work-so they are going to look at other cures. Will post if they cure it. Machog.

So do you still have the original (no spoiler) trunk springs or do you already have the stiffer (with spoiler) trunk springs?

yeah if you still have the original spring for trunk with no spoiler, adjusting it won't help at all, coz' the added weight is too much. you need the get the new stiffer springs to begin with

Default I Love this Place

Read the post, thought about our trunks and they way they closed. Almost scary because you thought it may close on you sometimes because of the lack of tension. The decks almost seemed heavy.

So, I grabbed the pliars and screw driver and readjusted both of our trunks. Much, much better. Now I am not fearful of the kids getting their hands or fingers bitten.

Doug

PS-took 15 minutes for both cars
