I was wondering if a RX300 steering wheel can fit on a 2000 GS. I was looking on ebay for a woodgrain steering wheel, and I found a couple that are from a rx300. Thanks for the help.

I see a whole bunch of replies coming that will say....the logistics of the rx wheel even being able to be mounted to the gs column would really have a negative effect...you got the cruise control...the air bags gs steering wheel is 3 point...i think the rx is 4 point...etc etc... i think the answer will be unanimous for...even if it fits...dont do it.

alternative? PM rominl or Rmmgs4 to have your steering wheel modded to wood...

I read about the wood grain mod, but that's $500. I have seen the steering wheels go for about 200-250. Then I can go back and resell my original steering wheel.

call me crazy (note, i do NOT carry any liability, coz' i haven't tried it out myself and i don't have anythign close to it. i have only done some research)

if you can get a 2002 rx300 steering wheel (the one with the upgrade steering wheel style where there is a lexus emblem in the middle of the airbag), it might actally fit on the 01+ GS.

but um..... 01+ gs300, doesn't it come with e-shift? rx300 doesnt have e-shift buttons on the steering wheel

Did the ones you see on eBay come with airbags? These are not cheap either.

Well, the title of ebay auction is
"98-02 LEXUS RX300/GS300 E-shift BURL WOOD STEERING"

So, does that mean it support 01+ gs3 e-shift?

When will be the next group buy from wooden steering wheel???

No OEM Wood lexus Steering wheel will fit pre 2001 Gs's. They will bolt on yes but you run in to problems with the Airbags. Even if u buy the airbag and leave it unplugged you will get the SRS light. But as long as your car has the 2 stage airbag any new wood wheel will fit just make sure it has the same buttons i.e. cruise and e-shift. I been looking for the cheap way out but after researching it i just started saving for it

He was asking for a 2000 gs. I don't think any of the newer wood steering wheels will work with the old airbag. There were some conflicting reports that ONLY the 2001 RX wheel/airbag will work but so far there has not been a 100% confirmation of this.

I finally just gave up and focused on other mods.

I just took a look and I don't think this is the same one audio28 was talking about since he mentioned pricing of $200-$250. This one is not "OEM". They take the current one and retrofit the wood like American Stitches. It is also $479. You also have to swap your current wheel with the new one.

So for this price and your current steering wheel, I guess you can get a wood wheel that will fit your model year. Just don't mistake it for the newer OEM one that has the new airbag with the chrome L in the center.

The steering will fit the 2000 GS 300,but the air bag won't fit. I believe someone on CL said the air bag on the 2001 RX is single stage airbag. If it is true then you have to get the airbag from 2001 RX. and the wood wheel from teh 2001.
I took a look at the wiring diagram for the 2001 RX and 2000 GS300. The connector looks the same from the drawing and both of them have only 2 wires( single stage).

I felt the same way when I had an RX330 loaner. Gotta be one of the nicest features that should be implemented in all Lexus vehicles.
