Extended Warranty for GS3
Hi all,
I'm thinking about buying extended warranty for my 01 GS with 44k.
Lexus has The Lexus Platinum Program
cost: $2150 suggested price. I got quote from one dealer selling for $1825 + tax.
Third party is either warrantydirect.com California Mechanical Breakdown Insurance
or
1SourceAutoWarranty.
Third party is a bit cheaper.
Which one should I choose?

I'd get the one from Lexus instead of third party even though its cheaper. One of the big aftermarket warranty companies went bankrupt this year (Warranty Gold).

I went with Viking Warranty for the following:
Bumper to Bumper (known as exclusionary coverage) for 4 years (from date of contract) or 100K miles, whichever occurs first. $50 deductable per visit (not per repair) and rental reimbursement. You can take the car to any ASE certified shop (including Lexus) and they pay full retail rates. Finally, Viking will pay by Corporate credit card so there's no waiting for reimbursment. In order to get this coverage, your car must still be within the factory warranty period.
Total cost was $1,175.
I have also used them on two other automobiles. They've paid out over $4,500 on my Land Rover (policy cost $2,350).
Read third party contract carefully and understand the wording - many are misleading; i.e. the contract period may be 4 years but the 4 years starts from the in-service date of the car not the date the contract was issued. That's just one example.
Best of luck,
Eric

This is something that I never really thought about, but should have. My car is almost at 50K and with the few problems that I have already had to get taken care of within the past 3 months of owning my GS, I think it would be in my best interest to invest in an extended warranty.
Can someone add their experiences and complications with warranty companies, please?

Who qouted you 1825? was it a Lexus Dealer, if so what is there name. I would be interested in talking to them. I agree 1000000000000% only buy through lexus. The best I have been quoted is $2200

Here's the info
George Kramer
Valley Lexus
1-800-266-5398
1-209-575-3987
The Platinum coverage for your car will cost $1,825 plus tax.
I went back to some old threads and saw someone got the extended warranty for 1600 from a lexus dealership. Don't know if that still valid.
I also got the idea that the extended warranty is cheaper when buying toward the end of the month. I guess the sales person needs to meet the target?!

Thanks for the replies, I called Len Stoler Lexus and he stated it is $2150 for the 7year / 100k. He never sold one for $1600 and the $1825 is for an ES300, ES330 not the GS300. The good news is you have until the full warranty to make up your mind 4 year / 50K miles which used to be 3year / 36K miles. You can get a 6 year 70K mile to cover things the powertrain warranty does not cover for $1375. Hope this helps if anyone knows of a dealer that wants to come off the price I am ready to deal, if not I will wait another year.

Btw, Viking warranty doesn't cover CA but their price is quite cheap.
Let us keep searching.....

I got a call back from the guy valley lexus, he said the 6 year 100k is 1875, the 7 year 100 k is what everyone else is saying $2150. Maybe we can get a group buy? Please update if someone is willing to come off $2150.

Well since I Drive a lot and am at 47K now, a 5 year/100K would do me fine. I'd be interested in a group buy for warranty under $2000. After i get my rims in a couple weeks, of course.
