Default More Pics of 3rd. Gen. GS

I am going back to the auto show on Saturday to take alot of pics of the new GS. Any request please post here. I also will try to convince the representitive to let me sit in it since I am going as soon as it opens, and no one will be there. I will be concentrating on areas we really coulnd't see like the rear seat room, and head clearance for rear seat passengers.
Here are some pics for now.

Some thoughts... I haven't been through ALL of the previously posted pics but I don't remember seeing any of these

See if you can sweet talk anyone into popping the hood and trunk and getting inside pics.
Closeups of the brake calipers up front (2 or 4 pot?)
Size of the tires
Closeups of the exhaust
Closeup of the controls on the steering wheel. I can *almost* read the ones you just posted, but not quite.

Thanks!

No problem Put these on my list. Check out what I pulled from Auto spies. They did a survey of our car, and they compare it to the new 5series.

The Spies perspective on the 2006 Lexus GS
Hit or miss

It's seems like forever since the GS Lexus has been significantly changed in any way...so when we heard the re-do of the car would be in Detroit we were ECSTATIC!

It was the car we were most anxious to see BY FAR!

We showed up and were sitting close to the front row waiting for the unveiling...when the curtain came up and we saw the car for the first time we did a Chris Berman from ESPN...WHAT?

We had heard all of these rumors saying that Lexus was going to finally fix their boring, quirky designs and the GS would be the first of a new generation of ground-breaking vehicles that could finally please the eye of a Mercedes or BMW buyer.

We were also teased by Lexus with the HPX concept vehicle and we hoping beyond hope that the GS would take styling queues from this gorgeous concept.

To say we were disappointed would be an understatement.

And 60% of our readers agree with us...

AUTO SPIES SURVEY
Is the 2006 Lexus GS a winner or a loser?
Winner 36.9%
Loser 33.0%
Not only is it a loser but its a poor copy of the new 5 and 6 series BMW's 30.1%

In our opinion the new GS is not ugly but it is an EXTREMELY conservative re-do of a car that has been waiting for a double major rehaul!

The other thing that's a downer in our opinion is that for some reason that does not make sense anymore in today's market, they are continuing to rip-off styling queues from the german marks, in this case BMW.

We think they mimicked some of the lines of the 6 in the front of the car and the 5 in the rear. See photos below:

Lexus front:

BMW 6 front:

BMW trunk:

The new GS actually makes the 5-series look BETTER to us!

The other thing that bothers us about the car is that there is really no innovative technology that the other guys don't already have...

Finally, for such conservative changes why do we have to wait until the 2006 model year for this thing?

Will it sell?

Of course, there is so much pent up demand from Lexus customers for a new model they will be safe for a couple years just meeting the demand.

And with AWD available, they should steal unhappy customers having service issues from the German brands.

More news from AutoSpies
Auto Spies World Exclusive: If you were like us, you were hoping that the next Lexus GS would be a re-badged LF-S, like the one shown in Tokyo...

Here's what we've found out...

Lexus threw everyone a curveball (including us). The real story on the LF-S is that you WILL see it come out as a Lexus...but surprise, the design of the LF-S is the next IS

The story is the GS was too far in development to change the skin to be similar to the LF-S.

Stay tuned....The IS will be the first Lexus based on the more modern and attractive LF-S design.

YES!!!

I don't know about you guys - but this new GS is really not doing anything for me. From what we are hearing, the engine is surely not much of an upgrade to what we already have. Overall the new GS looks LOW-RENT.

Hopefully when I see it, "LIVE" it will change my mind

....let's hope!!!

I am confused. Now I no longer like. The wood is horrible, sorry. HORRIBLE. The rear is too, too bulky, the trunk is so short. Front with the headlights is so busy. I am truly sad here.

and that dash plastic material is CHEAP.Looks like BMW dash material. That texture always gets smudged.Maybe they will change it for production.....? I hope. I agree about the wood Mike, it looks fake as hell! These new interior pics are dissapointing at best.

I agree.

My father has the new RX 330 and it has that same UGLY and CHEAP looking dash material everywhere, even on the steering wheel. When i first saw it and touched it, i couldnt believe that this type of material was used on a Lexus, it felt MUCH cheaper and lower class than the interior in my GS.
Same goes for the AC vents, looks like the same ones that come on the RX330, look and feel cheap.

Compared to the interiors of the LS, SC, and the current GS (came out 1998), this interior is def a disappointment. The seats look great though. Hopefully the GS will at least offer other types of wood colors like on the LS and SC.

Aplus, are you associated with Autospies?

No, but I don't know if any of you guys remember that I am starting my on Auto Styling Boutique, A-Plus Motoring, I am just looking for the right location, and waiting a little bit because I just bought a new house.
With My business I get alot of memberships and access to certain areas. When SEMA rolls back around and if any of you guys are close to Vegas I will see if I can get extra tickets. I didn't even use mine last year.

Looks awesome, I can't wait to see it in person!

Don't get your hopes up man. I am a big fan of the current GS and was looking for a new car. I wanted an SC430 but since hte new GS was going to debut soon I decided to what. Well I am getting a SC430 now or a Crossfire SRT-6 convertible with the AMG 330hp. engine.
Here is a pic of a Crossfire with the wheels I want
http://www.dealerrater.com/gallery/xl/DSC_1745.jpg Now imagine a retractable top like the SLK and the SLK AMG V-6. Still debating.

Hopefully when I see it, "LIVE" it will change my mind

It want, you have a modded GS. I am sure you will be very disappointed.

I am in the same boat as you are my friend.

All in all the new GS will not stir the blood of Lexus enthuisists as our selves. It is a wonderful family luxury car, but most of us did not want a family car. We wanted a luxury four door, with style that turn heads and could leave most cars in the dust. This will do everything the old one did, but will not turn heads. Might as well keep the old one and now use that money you where going to spend on a new one and get some force induction.
This is actually a plus for us. Our cars will not look out dated and will still continue to compete in the luxury four door market. I believe our current GS looks better than a 5serious new or old and better than the E-class save for the new AMG one. The interior of the new E is nice but not that much better than our car. All this tells me is that our current GS will still look good and new for at least anther 5 years. Plenty of time to mod.

To me the new GS looks like a big ES with dual pipes and a more aggresive front end.

Yes the seats are amazing looking but remind me of the seats in a Acura CL-Type S?

I don't think the wood in an SC or LS will make it to the GS. For some odd reason the wood on the steering wheel of the GS doesn't match the wood any where else in the car. In person you can distinctly see the steering wheel is the same one in the ES. The wood on the console looks like the Zebrano wood found in the STS or Escalade, which I might add is fake. I can't see them using two differnent typs of wood as an option here and then offering a the SC or LS wood which is beautiful. I can only image what a base GS3 interior will look like, with out the wood steering wheel. This was a fully loaded optioned out GS430 I might add.

I don't like how the wood pattern is so ugly. It's like from a 1970 Jeep or something.

I don't like how the rear is so fat (been saying that from day 1 but I got a photoshop in the works)

I don't like how the dash is so full of that plastic/leather-lookalike material. Makes it really BMW-ish and out of place.

Headlights are growing on me.

We need to figure out what those buttons are below the shifter part.
