Coming up on 100,000 miles
I will hit a 100,000 miles very soon (1 -2 months), and I know our cars are very reliable but any of you guys out here with high mileage cars experienced any problems yet? Any suggestions on items that should be checked other thatn the obvious? Also what do you guys think another 100,000 miles out of it? Was going to sell it and buy another car but I think I will keep it and still buy another car. Looking well you all know the NEW BUBBLE (when it hits), but also a SC430. Buying my girl an Audi Allroad. Like that car.

I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT 100,000 MILES
Greetings,
I think you are in good shape if the engine is mechanically sound. I remember when 100,000 miles meant "worn-out" and time for a replacement. NOT SO in this case.
Recently I met a gentlemen who had an original 1990 LS-400. This car had 186,000 miles on it, and it still had the original starter and alternator. He has had it for 14 years..(bought it new in 1989), and is thinking of replacing it for the new 2004 LS. He DID say that if something goes wrong, it is best to fix it right away, or it will cost more if you delay. The car was immaculate after all these years. I felt confident that I made a good choice after seeing that car.
Just make sure your timing belt has been done, and the transmission and differential have been serviced. Things HAVE to go wrong after awhile, but I think you can feel secure in the fact that the major components will work for a long time to come, IF you give it basic maintenance.
Good luck in the future.

I am coming up at 100k myself and I do ask this question myself. People say "ohhh 100k, you have alot of mileage". Though, I remind myself that this is a LEXUS and lex cars have one of if not the best reliabilty, generally speaking of course.

My friend has a 90 LS with 300K miles on it... He bought it new back in 89... The only major problem he has had was with the Torque converter.. Original motor and transmission, and still runs strong!

agreed...100k is nothing 2 b scared of...
It is if your previous cars where mostly Chryslers. Don't get me wrong I love Chryslers but man at 100k oh boy the Neon, Spirit, and Concorde that have passed threw my house hold have all needed engines, yes engines. These cars where not driven hard either. The Neon had 130k when thew engine blew, the Spirit 110k, and the Concorde well lets say it around 44,000k.

100,000 miles is just the break in period for a Lexus! Just make sure to prevent problems before they happen, do the suggested maintinence, especially the timing belt. My ES has just had it's second timing belt installed with 183,000 on the clock, you good to go dogg.

I got my 96 with 59k and sold it with 99k only problem I ever had was a tranny that I burnt out not knowing how to drive in the snow, otherwise dead reliable with a drop and 20s bouncing around on harsh bumps!! LOL

I currently have 48k miles on my GS4. It has had a few problems... more than I'd like to see for such a low milage car.
The water pump went out and the front headlights took in a bunch of condensation. Other troubles here and there but mostly minor things that 90% of the owners out there would never even notice much less get fixed at the dealer.
I will not be impressed with my car until it hits 200k miles reliably granted that I maintain it properly.
100k miles is nothing for most domestic cars costing 1/3rd of what our cars cost new. So for the premier reliability brand in the world making a car costing 2-3 times that of the average car in the US... I would hope 100k miles would be nothing for it as well.
Realistically I think that if I take care of it I should be able to get at least 250k maybe up to 400k miles out of it. I'm almost kind of excited to see, but wondering if I can really force myself to drive the same car for that long. Only time will tell.
Oh, and for the record, I've come across a whole ton of high-milage early-90s LS400s... they all seem to run great, even today.
