Talking Benefits of Cold weather!

The weather here in the Puget Sound area of WA has really dropped. When I leave work later in the evening it drops around 30 degrees.

When I hit the throttle the beast roars and revs go up higher and faster than expected.

Also my intake does not HISS anymore, she sounds more like an angry vacuum or wind storm.

I still dont like the cold here, but hey theres a bright side to it.

Anybody else?

Default Absolutely

Ambient temps with cold dense air can make a big seat of the pants HP difference, this is the time of year for the drag racers to start gettting some good #'s.

Even here in Florida (near Daytona) winter temps can dip into the 50's and even 40's (hasn't yet though), making a big difference in My GS4's and also my Supercharged T-Bird's performance feel. It was slightly "cool" here last night and I did notice the GS felt stronger, so bring it on I say!

I moved to Florida to get out of the cold, but at least there's an upside to it when i get a (slight) taste of what some of the rest of you are feeing. It's all good.

up to a certain level cooler weather = more hp, but when it gets even colder, then the engine actually starts to become inefficient and burns more fuel. Got this from personal experience and also explained by a fellow grad student in engine research.

I suppose the real progression is:

cooler temperature = intake air is more dense = higher compression = more HP?

The main benefit of cold weather is when I ask my wife to get the newspaper without a coat in her T-shirt, oh and the cooler denser air for my supercharger.

I guess you could call it inefficient but it's just trying to keep the Air Fuel (A/F) ratio correct. So the more air goes in (colder more dense air) by definition you need more fuel to keep the ratio the same. Therefore you see the power go up and the gas mileage go down.

Cold Air=Dense Air=More Air Molecules=Higher Efficiency=More HP.......................................for a while until temperature rises to normal operating conditions. Intakes and such are not good at blocking radiant heat which is inevitable as the engine runs for a prolonged period of time.

I'm sure she would get a kick out of it.....or someone would get a kick in the mouth....one or the other is certain!
