Default 2013 GS new owner

Hello all, long time lurker and new owner of 2013 gs 350 with premium package. Was set on a 2015 genesis sedan but I was not willing to buy brand new and not willing to wait 1-2 yrs for used one to drop into my price range. Long time Toyota family (01 tacoma, 10 corolla (my previous vehicle), and wife's current 4runner) and knew I could not beat the reliability of a Lexus.

I have been extremely happy with my purchase and plan to keep this vehicle for many years. I learned today and wanted to share as I haven't seen anything here on the boards about how easily the headlights can scratch while washing I was using a crappy towel and trying to remove bug splatter from my headlights and when finished noticed a surprising amount of scratches on my headlights.

Also, I took a picture of what appears to just be a string that was attached to the drivers side mirror. At first glance thought it was a wire coming loose but after checking the other side and not seeing something similar realized it was just string. Not really sure why it is there or if anyone has encountered this before? Pics of the ride and wife's ride below:

Welcome to CL! Looks like some string got caught there. I'd try to untwist it and see if you can take it off. It doesn't look like a wire. I might attempt to cut it off and pull it out.
I never noticed the black part on the mirrors. I thought it's all one color until recently. Nice pick up. Enjoy.

The scratching on the headlights is an easy fix, some cleaner wax or some polish should remove it, then you can finish it with some sealant...

That looks like some string got caught up on your mirror, I would take it out of there

String hanging . . . . . . .possibly car wash residual? Scratches should come out with wax or some of the new headlight renewal products. Good luck, congrats, and welcome!

I recall seeing on the news that somewhere in Arizona there was a good lookin' girl wearing a string bikini that got too close to the driver's side of a white Lexus GS 350 and the mirror snagged her bikini top off. Was that you?

Congrats and welcome aboard!

Does everyone have that plastic clearbra thing on the mirrors? I'll have a look at my car later today.

Anyway congrats on the car!

The string is probably a left-over from a balloon or sign the dealer hung on the mirror prior to sale.
