Default replacing a ball joint in the front upper control arm?

I was told that the only option is to replace the whole arm and that is costly, because I have to change both left and right upper control arms in front. The passenger side has more play and needs to be replaced asap, the driver's side has little play, but its getting there too.....

Let me know what my options are.. Thanks!

any competent shop can replace the part as long as it is available.

UCAs don't normally go bad that fast. What caused it?

My guess would be the lowered suspension, and horrible New York roads

I know that a bad ball joint is not a joke, but I'm not ready to spend $500 on the front upper control arm yet....

I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative.

I did some research and I found that 2014 IS350 AWD has the same ball joints in upper control arm as 2005 - 2011 GS300/GS350/GS460. Even the front upper control arm on 2014 IS350 AWD has the same part number 48610-39135 as 2005 - 2011 GS.

I know that both GS and IS share suspension components, but I'm not 100% sure if the UCA off of 2014 IS would fit the 2013 GS ?

or I could just get the ball joint for IS and see if it would fit my UCA. That would be a lot cheaper too.

Any thoughts?

Exclamation

If the part numbers are the same... The prices are the same...

From what I know, the ball joints are not sold separately... Even for the IS F

Have you looked into possibly buying the adjustable SPC ball joints ??

I'm not sure if they for your application..

You're right, Lexus does not sell ball joints for the UCA, but I found some aftermarket ones for $50 a piece.

I did see the SPC adjustable ball joints, they are a bit more expensive and again I'm not sure if they would fit. If there was a way to know for sure that both, IS and GS have the same ball joints, then I would go with SPC ones. I'd fix 2 problems with one shot this way.

Edit:
This site says that SPC ball joints are universal ? http://www.carid.com/spc-performance...FRc2gQod5LcAPw

how are you checking for play? I can't figure out what is wrong with my suspension, i get horrible knocking and stuff over bumps. I have jacked it up and tried wiggling/tilting the wheels holding my hands straight up and down and also sideways and everything feels tight, I am thinking it might be the struts as i see some oil but is sure sounds like a bad ball joint from my experience.

It's better if you to take the front wheels off. Then move the upper control arm up and down, there should be no play in the ball joint. Mine did not knock by the way.

Hi
Recently I bought a used 2013 GS350 Luxury Package which included the Adaptive Variable Suspension.
I also get noticeable knocking noise when go over the bump and some hole on my front left side suspension (right hand drive car, so the front left is the passenger side).
I already changed the swaybar end link on that side and still couldn't solved it .

Have you figured out what's wrong with yours?

My 2016 base without AVS had the same noise/clunk. I just changed out the struts with coilovers and it went away. It was almost like the front left was hitting the bump stops but I never saw any signs that they were leaking.

Try opening the sunroof, and then go over bump; is the noise still there?
